Montana...

Need to activate my second work permit and had planned on flying to LA or San Fran in July of this year, however, to save money we are looking at taking the long weekend in Montana.

Can anyone recommend anything good to do there? I know Yellowstone is sort of in Montana but that is a long drive from Calgary, I was thinking going to the Glacier lakes.

I would personally just head to Glacier National Park, drive the going to the sun road which is beautiful and we'll worth doing maybe do a few day hikes. You can stay in Whitefish which is a nice town and only 30 minutes away from Glacier.

Yellowstone is fantastic but way to far to drive for a long weekend.

Not sure if the Going to the Sun Road will be open this time of year. Your two main places closest to the border are Kalispell/Whitefish and Great Falls. I guess shopping is one activity. Haven't visited this time of year so not sure what is open/to do.

Yep you are right it's not open this time of year, thought he would be going in July as that is when he was looking at LA. There isn't a lot to do there this time of year apart from cheap shopping.
