Money Transfers

Just thought I would share my personal experience of transferring money from an English to a Canadian bank. I needed to send a deposit to Canada for a property we had purchased in Alberta. I used a company called Custom House after becoming dissatisfied with the service i was getting from moneycorp. Custom House have a bank in London and Canada which deals with the transfer of the cash over the Atlantic and therefore they can do this without attracting any fees. Less than two days of the money reaching their London branch from my bank account, the mortgage company in Alberta had acknowledged receipt. The rate i agreed over the phone was very close to the best business rate i could find and was better than Moneycorp were offering.

I now send monthly mortgage/utility payments over using their 'Vantage' account which is simple to use, it takes about 90 seconds to complete every month and again is sent via their bank in London.

If anyone is interested in any further details, let me know or if anyone knows of a better way or better company please let me know.

Might see people at the Nottingham meet up on Saturday

Hi Deano

When we had to send our money over to buy a house we used HiFX who were very good. I've checked and today Custom House are giving $2.2251 to £1 but HiFX are giving $2.2335. It's not a big difference but on a big amount of money it can add up.

We have just had an awful experience with Moneycorp and would never use them again. Their poor service has cost us thousands.

Hi Angela just goes to show it pays to shop around. At the time i exchanged Custom House were giving a better rate than HIFX and Moneycorp. I phoned a chap called Ken Fukami at Custom House (strange name i know) and was able to get a better rate than the one on their website. They were very hands on and friendly and a lot easier to deal with than Moneycorp.

I will check HIFX when it comes to sending some cash over again. Could do with a much better rate than it is at the moment though.

We are sending a large amount over soon - please let the rate go back to what it was a month or so ago!

Has anyone got any good ideas about the trends in the Canadian dollar against the pound?

We also need to shift money for a house etc.

I am/was planning on using Moneycorp to transfer my money, but it seems like lots of people have had back luck with them, can someone say exactly what they did'nt like about them?

Strange? I call it downright disgusting, if you say his name really quickly it's even worse!

Can I just say, that for me I simply wire the money from Natwest to my TD bank account on a monthly basis and has worked fine for a few years now.
