Default Mobile phones & Leaving the UK

Just wondered what the 'norm' is with this.

I don't have a Canadian cell phone yet, but will need a mobile for a few weeks I guess first of all, when I go for my R&R to Houston, and then in Canada?

Could I call T Mobile from Canada to close my account, say 4 weeks after I land???

Are you sure your UK phone will work properly in Canada?

I have a UK phone which, for very high charges, can receive calls, can send and receive texts, but CANNOT be used to make calls.

As soon as I got here I just bought a Virgin PAYG cheapie phone. It was about $60, if I remember correctly.

Hello!

I am with T-mobile and my mobile worked while I was in Canada (to receive calls and send/receive texts) a few months back. My husband is with 3 mobile and his worked for everything.

What I would suggest doing is getting your current phone unlocked then when you arrive in Canada you can buy a pay as you go SIM card from Rogers Wireless for $25... just an idea to get you started up asap without locking into a contract there.

Hi

Yes it does as it worked when I was on my Recce in Feb.

My main query however was can I cancel my exsisting T Mobile Contract in the UK from Canada?? As I'll need a mobile until I actually get my new one, and that time will be longer as I'm heading to Houston for about 2 weeks before getting to Vancouver!!!

Cheers

Hi,

We bought cheapo Telus cell phones at Wal-Mart (maybe $50 BUT with a $50 call credit in the package, so effectively free). Have since gone with a Rogers pre-paid and we find the call quality much better than on the Telus network (or maybe it was the phones?) but the Telus phones were handy to help us get up and running here.

Eamonn & Janet.
