Re: Mobile boadband
I think Rodgers offer something like that, it costs between $30 and $85++ per month dependent on usage, and from what I've read its not as fast as says it is.
I thinks its your only choice. http://www.rogers.com/web/content/wi...one_card_plans |

Re: Mobile boadband
A mate of mine came up here with a Sprint broadband gadget and I was stunned at how effective it was. We tried it in the barn, in a moving car, in spots where neither the cell phone (Bell) nor radio (SiriusXM) work and, even in those places, it provided better throughput than one gets from cable (Rogers). However, it's $200 a month + so much a minute for usage + roaming fees if you're not at home. All in all you need to be able to write it off somehow.

I'm hoping they eventually get around to deploying WiMax in Detroit - just need to work out how to get around the US address then...

A couple years back, Canadian data prices were insane to the extent it could actually be cheaper to buy an American service and roam here. Things are a little better now. Rogers don't charge any roaming or long distance for data within Canada, and I believe the same is true of Bell and Telus. Just be careful (or figure out how to turn roaming off) if you get close to the border. |

Re: Mobile boadband
is there a Verizon Canada? i looked at Rogers site and they have this 3G wireless broadband they are offering for like $CAD20 for a 1GB monthly allowance. is that good?
* i will only use my mobile broadband for say 2-3 months until a get a permanent place to stay and settle down. does these companies allow you to "upgrade" like change/convert a mobile wireless broadband to a cable/landline broadband, take a bundle, etc. |

Also the "unlimited" plan offered by Telus is really limited to 5Gbs. |

If you'll be using the service in one place (even if it's temporary), have a look at the Rogers *Portable* Internet, or the Bell Internet Portable service. These use a bulkier wireless 'modem' but have higher usage allowances. When you move, you can pick the service up and take it with you. |
Re: Mobile boadband
i will stay at a place for 45 days then i will look for a new and permanent place preferabbly near my place of work. i plan to use my mobile internet for 2-4 months only and mainly at home inside my flat till i settle down then maybe "upgrade" (?) to a bundle with mobile phone+internet+cable/digital tv? is that allowed? is there such a thing? does Rogers or Bell only have that service or policy you think?

Rogers is only too happy to upgrade and bundle - they even offer 10-15% discounts depending how many services you bundle with them. However you may find you can save more money by finding your own a la carte service providers. Look around before signing any of their "contracts". |
Re: Mobile boadband
i'm kinda liking Rogers sevices but i'm a bit confused with them. they have this wireless modem internet for $29.95CAD with 2MB speeds and 30GB monthly allowance but at the same time they have this wirelesss stick. which one to choose?
|
Re: Mobile boadband
just found out if you use the USB modem wireless thingy you get to pay more and have a lot less limit compared to the portable wireless modem which is the $29.95CAD which has like 30GB monthly limit. do the maths and practicality side i would go with the portable wireless one. but accroding to the sales person i spoke to the phone it all depends on where you are staying....
