Injure yourself at work, need medical help, well that is a whole new 'thread' (Workers Compensation Board!!!!) We have friends, hubby lost his job and his wife a diabetic, they had to go back to the UK as they could not afford her insulin. NHS maybe not perfect, but give me that any day compared to Canada. Our family Doc is from South Africa and he says NHS is far superior!!! (he worked in UK for 10years)

I disagree. The main complaint I hear (and there will always be complaints) is about the difficulty in finding a GP in many places. I would point out that General Practices (although recompensed by the provinces) are private organizations and are the weakest link in the existing system precisely because of this fact.
I take it then that profit is a dirty word. If you have a pension, private or CPP, the ability of the pension providers to fund future demands is that dirty word-profit.

When the thing being exploited for the profit is peoples' ill health, then yes, absolutely.
