Just curious is medical cover in Canada similar to NHS in UK? I thought it was, but just read this article.

No its different in every Province.
Drugs are usually not covered, nor is Dentistry.
Check on the Province that you intend to live in's Health Authorities web site.

Quite a few provinces, including NS, have that kind of scheme with the 'deductable' depending on income levels.
It sounds like the drug in the link is not one they'll pay for indefinitely.
As also happens in the UK...some drugs not being covered, I mean.
