Default MCCQE1 exam for GP's

Hi
I was hoping someone on this forum
may have some tips on this exam. I am thinking of doing the MCQE1 prior to working in Canada. Is this doable or would it be better to wait till having worked there?
Any pointers on which study materials / books/ courses may help would be greatly appreciated . Thanks

hi

yes! absolutely doable. it is easy to do esp for uk trained practising GP. it is 4 & 3 hrs computer based test.

you can use Q bank for revision as least expensive and explanation of to Q&A are short and won't require much time. there is also LLMC one but too detail and need weeks to do revision. good luck...u can do QE2 too prior to relocation.

Thank you so much Hasan. That's brilliant. Yes, I had seen that there were no exam centres in the UK.

How are things going for you work wise and socially ? Are you enjoying life in Canada?
Best wishes

My husband did it recently... It went very well. I would have to ask him if he felt being in Canada benefitted him in terms of the exam but honestly we weren't paying out for him to fly over and sit them to come home again..

Hi Tirytory, thanks for your reply. Yes, completely agree- the cost of flying out plus the exam fee is pretty expensive .
How did your husband prepare for the exam if you don't mind me asking - did he use Q bank or do a course ?
I'm glad it went well for him- is he in the process of attaining full registration now, or are you waiting on PR.. ?
It must be a relief to not have to do any more exams !

I'm not doing it until after we land. I hate mcqs so I'm putting it off in case I detest my job and decide to run away within a year.

He didn't do much- certainly no courses/not sure about Q bank- will ask him later. I think he just read up on obs/gynae/paeds. Awaiting results of part two for full license so fingers crossed... Plus PR application in process.

Argh! You can do the mcq when you like but I'm banking on us sticking together in BC!
We both need to be really really careful before signing up to a job to minimise the risk of large amounts of distress !

I do hate mcqs but I'm not being serious about running away. I should have emigrated years ago and didn't because of the need to do more exams. I don't think in terms of black and white so find mcqs very hard. I did loads on q bank last year when we were originally thinking about AB. The different drug names and preferred antibiotics and different public health system means I will probably not start thinking about doing this until I've worked in BC for about 6 months.

Yes, 3 years to pass both parts. The reason I'm keen to do them quickly is to get full registration ( once PR sorted). Fingers crossed for your husbands results
