marrying a canadian lady
 

The master plan is to marry my Quebec citizen girlfriend and then she will sponsor me to live in Canada!!..I hope it works. However, I cannot find any info on whether there are any specific rules for a 'foriegner' regarding marrying a canadian. It may be that the requirements are the same for both??? Anyone able to advice me?

Go ahead and marry her if you love each other and want to spend your life together. You'll have to get a marriage license wherever you're going to get married but otherwise the wedding itself isn't a problem.

What you will need to keep in mind is that Canadian immigration people will scruitinze your relationship to make sure you didn't get married just for the convenience of sponsoring you to Canada. You'll have to answer all sorts of probing questions about your courtship, engagement, relationships with families, wedding, honeymoon etc. The more unlikely the story, the deeper they'll probe.

I agree with SueBed's answer. Get joint bank accounts, open utilities in both names, jointly lease or buy your house in Canada. Get loads of stuff like bills etc with BOTH names on them. The reason I say this? The UK wouldn't give Mrs Snave Permanent Leave to remain while we lived over there as we had "nothing" to show that we really lived together, and I'm determined that having moved to Canada we don't get in the same position over here. When I applied for PR with Mrs. Snave sponsoring me, we provided CIC with 'photos of the wedding, trips together, bank account statements, everything we could think of - to prove that we're together for each other, not for me to get PR.

I'm having serious doubts as to whether I should have married my Canadian lady. I just took her lunch in and found her watching Emmerdale, FFS. It's high time she went back to work.

Come to think of it, all the Brit/Canadian couples I can think of in real life involve a Franco Canadian woman.
