Luggage Allowance

Hi all

I have decided that I will book a one way flight to Toronto this january as I will be activating my Visa in March I will book a return before this point.

So in the short space between going and activating my WHV I will search for work.

I wanted to know of the best flights offering good luggage allowance or whether there are any that would let me take more than the usual 20-25kg as alot of my stuff will be winter type clothing I imagine that allowance will be taken quickly.

Thanks
Bobby

Re: Luggage Allowance

I think you have to upgrade the flight to get the extra baggage allowance these days. I have recently booked my flight through BA (were cheaper than Air Canada by quite a bit) and they charge 30 odd quid for extra suitcases so I have gone this way instead of upgrading my flight.

Re: Luggage Allowance

Well i just did a one way ticket check with BA and i might be doing something wrong in the search but it is around £900 for a one way economy ticket!

however if i do a return it works out cheaper ?

Wonder if doing a flexible retrun would work out better?

Re: Luggage Allowance

that's what i have done

return ticket is for the middle of april next year. It doesn't mean I will be using it though :)

Re: Luggage Allowance

oh i see

yeah my friend just said advised me that too

said to book a return flight and so what if i dont use it still works out cheaper

however just seen flights with canadian affair/air transit for £200 one way so might go with them. The allowance is £25kg so i dont mind getting stung with £50 to add another 5kg in

Hiya,

We booked our flight with Air Canada and you can take an extra suitcase for $70 so we went for that, tickets are expensive but we fly out on the 16th Dec, so I assume it's the pre xmas boom.

When do you head out?
What state you going to?

Have to ask as you are a fellow Brummie!
Where abouts you living?

Hey Taylor, i was going to call them up and check whether there was such an option so a better suitcase is definitely a good option.

Will see if such an option exists with Air Transit who are way cheap in january.

I have PM you with fellow brummie info rather than on here
Thanks

Can't believe how cheap your flight is, jammy sod

We flew with them in June and I have to say they weren't the best, it actually turned out to be Thomas Cook airlines, flew from Manchester and it were a tight squeeze on that plane  and no free drinks boooooooooooo

We flew one way with Air India in 2008. They had an allowance of 40kg pperson plus hand luggage.

Well it is a one way flight and yeah i have flown with them before and its not the best but I rather pay less and suffer. Plus i tend to have a few glasses of red before hand so that puts me out for most the flight lol

Air India...do they fly to canada because i just checked and could not find anything??

Hey there,

With Canadian Affair type in "Discover Canada" in the promo code and get extra 10% off. I know it said code valid till end of October but I just tried it for our one way in March 2012 and it worked.

Good Luck

Hey thanks

It did work and i think saved £19 for the flight i was going to book so looking at £179 one way and fingers crossed immigration wont kick up a fuss about me only havinga one way.

NEXT STEP - luggage

option to upgrade to club class costs an £143 which will allow 40kg luggage allowance so only an extra 15kg

Thinking whether for the same money i could find a shipping company to send over a lot more of my stuff for the same price.

any recommendations from anyone?

excessbaggage.com is one of the company we asked for a quote from and they are quite competitive.

Bobby, I flew with canadian afffair... as you know they have a 25kg allowance. I vac packed my clothes (and I had a lot of winter stuff) and was able to fit a ton in there - and it didn't go over the 25kg. I did the same for my hand luggage - vac packed clothes and put them in there. My hand luggage was over and all the girl asked was if I had a laptop in there - showed it to her and she let me on my merry way :) Regarding the one way ticket... I came out 3 weeks ago on a one way ticket... Immigration were absolutely fine - I was asked why I put 180 days on my landing card and if I had a return ticket - explained I had a PR application in and the guy was fine - and didn't stamp my passport with an entry date.
