Re: Love Canada, not sure about the people
believe me I will take it on board and watch very carefully in the future, as I feel a little intimitated, there has been a person who I feel resorted to religious discrimination and onone said a word, so belive me I will be looking very closely at this forum in the future. Not one of you have retaliated against personal attack here, it to me has seemed discrimatory by yourselves, but we will see

It's very simple - just don't resort to name calling and personally attack anybody, which is what you seem to do anytime anybody disagrees with you. Comply with site rules and then there will be no problem.

Feel free to look closely. If you feel that you are being personally attacked, then tell us and we'll see if any action is necessary. That's what the report button is for. You should note that nobody else in this thread has called you names or similar though.

Re: Love Canada, not sure about the people
We've been in Canada since Feb 09 and absolutely loving the country, the people however are a different story. Although we have met some of the most amazing people we're still wondering whether the majority are two faced and arrogant...Canadians need to take a chill pill
I have met some Canadians who posses that "sledgehammer wit" ... but once you scrape below the surface, they are usually the finest people you will ever meet (shirt off their back and all that). The "status" issue isn't as important to most Canadians, so that is a winner in my book. People from all different walks of life (and extreme ends of the success ladder) get along quite nicely.
Maybe the next 5,000 Canadians you meet will re-visit your conclusion?
All the best!

The majority of Canadians I have met all seem to be nice, friendly people. I guess it is like any where you go, there will be some people you like and some you dont. That is certainly the case for the UK.

I don't know if you the chance to wander along the Lakeshore shopping strip. Lots of quirky little shops selling overpriced stuff that nobody needs. I used to wonder how they made any money. I was later told by one of the cradles that a lot of them didn't. They'd been bought by rich hubbies for their wives to run as a hobby (and a tax loss).

There are always people you do or don't like in any place, you are right, i do find the Canadians ( that i have met all be it limited ) to be very friendly but there is a wall there, they also don't seem to be very friendly towards each other ? maybe i am seeing this because they know they are returning to Canada soon there 3 years is up, also same with the americans at the base near by, perhaps its a military thing ??

I think Oakville has the highest average household income of any town/city in Canada.

The keyboard I bought was in a tiny apartment above one of said quirky stores. The guy I bought it from was moving to downtown toronto soon...It was going to be cheaper to live there.
I figure there are some poor people who live there, probably in the servants wing of the big houses They are the ones driving the Hondas and VWs
This thread certainly took an overnight nosedive. Why cant people just agree that they have different experiences and opinions instead of going on and on flogging a dead horse and then getting nasty with anyone with a contrary view!

Me too. I have never denied mine or anyone's else's heritage. They've got a right to be where they've been as long as they are responsible for doing it well. And, no matter how hard you try to be someone else it just falls short of trying in another way right? You only have to look at who's not paying their taxes and find some sort of tax non-payment scheme that quite frankly upsets me when I'm angry. I don't have a problem with it unless I get annoyed and if that is the case I am glad I left the UK when it was down. My wife is not collecting her pension because she is not old enough but that's not fair because there are too many busy bodies who like to keep their noses too close to the fire. I'd also pay my taxes in France if I was French but I'm not, so I don’t think its fair some sanctimonious people say I should then give my money to the Catholic church. Straightforwardly, I wish I could see someone doing the same thing here. But sadly, not these days.

I agree with a lot you are saying, I found Canadians to be really helpful and friendly when I came in the 70's, but I believe now people have to work so much harder just to pay the bills, so don't have the same time to socialise like they did before, so it's more lonely now for people imho
Don't forget that most people and places evolve, and evolution equals change. Setting expectations on the past is never a good thing. In my opinion of course.
