Don't forget that most people and places evolve, and evolution equals change. Setting expectations on the past is never a good thing. In my opinion of course.
I think its a bit of both, because even back in the UK and Ireland, both parents have to work now to make ends meet, and a lot of them are under so much pressure, keeping up with the jones as their kids will be bullied if they don't have the latest everything, trying to get them into the right school, I don't remember having the worries to such an extent back then, but I see my own kids going through it with their kids and I think it is sad, imo people are so stressed they havent time to sit back and relax. We always had bbq's with neighbours and vice versa, it was lovely, you don't see so much of that now

I don't agree with this. I find the natives as sociable as they ever were. Purely in the interest of testing the theory, I recently ventured into a bar and engaged two cradles in conversation. The themes were the same as ever, how they hate the French and are superior to Americans. That and how wonderfully diverse the population of Toronto is; as evidenced by our group, two white cradles, one white English, two white Irish and one, er, white French woman. It could have been 1985, even to the sudden switch from hating the French to hating French-Canadians was a familiar conversational tack.

Back up in Yorkshire where i come from the localised BBQ's still happen, as does the socialisation. This is also mirrored in communities i've participated in in areas of BC, and AB.

Where your childrens generation have come a little unstuck (and i admit this is a sweeping generalisation) is that they often (myself included) want to carry on the lifestyle their parents have/had. Availability of credit allows that to an extent which in turn requires paying off and the stress and pressure that comes with it. The increased availability to social media also doesn't help. Maybe this is what you see.

Although we do have to ask ourselves the question; were things really much better "when we were young" or does distance in time and the evolution of ourselves create a fiction over reality?

Who knows. What i do know is that embittered posts and threads provide detriment to the originator/contributor and easily declines into vehement hostility where reality is easily distorted. I think we all just need a hug.

All in my opinion of course.

i think steven27 hit the nail on the head with an opinion to the original post, which i agreed with an posted basically dont concern yourself with who wont let his wife out an so on - its their business - yet i was accused of being nasty! granted not by the op but by various others who maybe read it wrong!

for me, we're headin out to new brunswick an i do read all the negatives as well as the positives (does that make me a troll? ) - it doesnt put me off because i know everyones different, but its good to be all informed, i want to be all informed about everything and what to expect, but it does seem that there are the odd few who are obviously very bitter about their experience in Canada and do get very emotional when someone disagrees, starts stamping there feet and resorts to name calling which is quiet immature ....

again though it is good to hear everyones view good and bad.

What's TelePresence? Is it like teleconference? It sounds like it should beam a little hologram of the person onto your conference room table. Sort of like when R2D2 beamed Obiwan Kinobe out to Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

Yes I am trying to be humorous. Yoda is a well-known, but obviously not by you, character from Star Wars

You have a little way to go to beat the Thee Word story or Guinevere.

It's the next generation conferencing. HD quality with real size participants unlike Video Conferencing and much much higher quality sound and picture etc. The people facing you on the shot below are attending via TP from anywhere in the world.

The sound quality is so good the London Philharmonic Orchestra held auditions in one of ours where people attending in Sydney, AUS, Singapore, Madrid, and the US.

HealthPresence will be rolled out soon.

Oh, and TP Magic is just around the corner but is possible now in testing

It's taken me absolutely ages to settle in Canada and during that time I haven't found it difficult to be critical of things over here. It justified me wanting (or half-wanting depending on my mood) to return back to England.

Now nearly six years on I'm really feeling settled and enjoy my life that much more. Suddenly there's a lot less to be critical about.

I currently work in retail and I get to meet a lot of people. It's honestly no different to anywhere else in my opinion. Just lots of different people with different attitudes. Some nice, some not so nice etc.

Thankyou for that, it's nice to know others have felt the same at some stage and hope as times passes things settle down for me as they have for you
