Looking to work as college lecturer in Canada or US - Need help!
Hi all!
Ive been a Further and Higher Education (based within FE Colleges) in the UK for the past few years, teaching Performing Arts / Musical Theatre from BTEC up to Foundation Degree. Ive also authored a Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Musical Theatre for Staffordshire University. I have a degree in Musical Theatre and a PTLLS qualification (Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and am also 3 modules away from completing my PGCE (Level 7 version), which is FE based. Im now looking to work ideally in the US or Canada, in their equivalent system to FE - which I think is Community College? Has anyone made the change previously? What is the bets way to go about it.....Im literally starting form scratch!! Many thanks in advance  |
Re: Looking to work as college lecturer in Canada or US - Need help!
I have a pgce fe and Iqas converted it to a certificate in adult education, NOT an teaching qualification. I couldn't even get anywhere near an interview for the college type places, they also don't do the spectrum of fe subjects like the uk - the colleges generally are journeyman/electrician/childcare type quals.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news there, it's a tough market to break into. Also, most relevant jobs insisted on a masters in that subject. |

Welcome to BE!
This may be of help: Post-Secondary Theatre Programs - it may be worthwhile getting in touch with any that are of interest to ascertain what they require - or going to their websites to see what jobs are available. My step-daughter went to Humber College. :) |
