Looking for a way to make an Open Bachelor Degree

Hi there,

I'm looking to move to Vancouver with my family at some point. My girlfriend is looking to study again (distance studies) and wants to obtain a Bachelor degree in languages and was looking into enrolling at the UK Open University. Now it turned out that she won't be able to continue studying if we move to Canada, as the OU doesn't offer or only offers a restricted set of courses outside of the EU.

I've done some research on that topic but couldn't find anything similar in Canada especially as the OU offers an open degree which means you can chose your main subjects rather than need to stick to a pre-organised program. Also I couldn't find anything regarding distance studies in languages leading to a Bachelor degree in Canada.

If anyone can point me into the right direction that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Athabasca and TRU Open Learning are the 2 major institutions that offer distance learning. Course choices are as flexible as your girlfriend would like them to be.

Thanks Rich,

I came across both universities as well as the link you've posted. As I understand a distance studies BA is offered either for studies in French, which, unfortunately, wouldn't be particularly interesting for her (Athabasca) or being taught in French (TÉLUQ). I'm going to take a closer look again at TRU.

To give you an idea what she's aiming for check his link:

I forgot to mention that there shouldn't be any formal requirements. I know it's complicated, but that's how it is unfortunately.

No formal requirements for TRU (generally), and previous learning can be used to help gain credits (http://www.tru.ca/distance/services/plar-ol.html) I'd recommend you call and talk to an advisor to understand what's available: 1.800.663.9711 (toll-free in Canada) or 250.852.7000 (Kamloops and International)
