Default Looking for vacation rental home/condo in Calgary

Hi everyone.

I'm thinking of emigrating to Calgary, Alberta and my wife and I are looking to visit for three weeks from 7th to 28th August of this year as an initial fact finding visit, and to see of the place is for us.

Can anyone recommend, or know of, any holiday homes/condos in the area for rent? We're not keen on a hotel for this period, as we'd like to keep costs down by eating in (maybe even BBQ'ing) during the stay. We'd need somewhere with two bedrooms as there'll be four adults. We done mind staying somewhere just outside (Okotoks?) and travelling in if that also keeps costs down. I've hit the web already but can only seem to find executive (read expensive) suites or long term rentals.

Any guidance would be much appreciated, and look forward to making contact via this forum in the future with any Brits who've moved to Calgary.

Cheers,
Alan Mott

Hi Alan, Welcome to the forum.

Once you have posted 3 times, I would recommend that you send a PM to Getting There (Go to the Members list on the top bar and do a search).
He may be able to put you in touch with someone that can help. He will also be able to help you with any other questions you may have. We are going over for a Reccie on Oct and it is Eammon that has helped us to sort out our accommodation. Even though i have sent him hundreds of emails with varying questions he has always helped and given exceptional advice!
Alternatively you can visit his website www.yournewlife.ca

Hope that helps

Hello Alan

Normally, I would be able to offer you our rental suite here in Cochrane but we already have someone else from this forum staying at that time in August.

However, I would recommend you get in touch with Chloe Cartwright. She is a realtor who specialises in people moving across from the UK. We first met her at one of the Emigrate Shows in the UK and she was a big help to us and has since become a good friend. She has various rental properties here in Cochrane that she rents to people coming over on recce trips etc. Details of the properties are on her website. If you wanted, she would probably be able to take you around to view some properties when you were over to get an idea of styles and what you can get for your money etc. She works as a buyers agent so her services are free - apart from of course you potentially renting a property from her. She covers Calgary, Cochrane, Okotoks and Airdre although, as I said, I believe all her rental properties are in Cochrane.

Certainly check out her website. Her details are:

Chloe Cartwright
Web: www.c21gold.ca
Email: [email protected]
Tel: 00 1 403 650 0888

Anyway, please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can help you with anything else or there's anything specific you want to know about the area etc. I know how daunting the whole prospect can be.

Anyway, best of luck!

Hi

We are going to stay with The Thornes when we move over in July. Their accommodation looks great and I recently recommended another BE (who has just returned from a short stay in their suite). I'm glad we have somewhere to stay for a while (better than a hotel), in my opinion. They only moved about 18 months ago so have a good understanding of how we feel and are better equipped to meet our needs, answer our queries etc.

I will PM you details.

You should try looking in rentfaster.ca. I Live in sunnyside and its a great area. Not sure if there is any short term rents in this area but try the website. Your are also looking at spending about $1500 all inclusive per month for this area. Hope this helps

I have used the VRBO website in the past and always been satisfied, though it is geared up for vacations rather than short-term lets - I haven't checked for the area you are looking in but check out the link if you are interested.
