Looking to move from UK to Toronto/Cambridge
Hi there,
My name is Faisal but have been called Fizz since i was a kid for some weird reason... My wife (who was born in Canada and moved over when she was 2 years old) and I along with our little baby are planning on emigrating to Cambridge which i believe is about an hour away from Toronto. We are actually going this Monday coming to check it out and will be there for just under 3 weeks. We will be staying with her family for a bit and then staying over in a hotel in Toronto for bit and take it from there. Essentially im going to be looking at job prospects/mortgages/house prices, etc as well as a general feel for the cost of living there. Im in the IT field (software test analyst) and have researched that there is a good number of software companies based in Waterloo which is within commuting distance from Cambridge. We would initially be staying with my wife’s family there should be decide to move over. I have been reading up on the pro's and con's including threads where people are moving back to the UK after things didn’t work out the way they wanted. Im realistic and know it wont be easy should we come over so am trying to take onboard as much info as possible. Anyway, is anyone in the IT industry in or around Toronto and what advice would you give in terms of what to look out for that i may have missed from my preparation for the holiday/recce mission. We are obviously going to use our time to do the touristy things as well like Niagara Falls etc so i can’t wait for the trip regardless! Regards Fizz P.S) Im 28, my wife is 29 and our daughter is almost 8 months old. If we do emigrate it will be in about 2 years time. |
