Looking for a job before PR is granted
Hi all
I was brousing the internet for jobs to see what's out there and I was wondering, how many of you are applying now for positions before you have had confirmation of your visa? I am at the medical stage, I did mine this week, just waiting for the results and the next stage of Immigration, so another 2-3 months yet. But my thoughts are, 'are employers not interested in the people who don't have a valid visa yet or do you actually get a positive responce and/or interviews?' I'm told its difficult to get responses from employers and can take weeks/months to secure a job. I had just assumed that the best way was to just look now and then actually start applying once I had landed. |

Hi pinzo :) We went for a recce 18 months before we left UK, hubby was armed with dozens of 'Canadian style' resumes ~ he 'borrowed' the relevant pages from the hotel yellow pages & off he went (as I recall he'd also managed to arrange to chat to one person before we left) whilst he was looking around in Victoria one of the contacts he'd made asked if we would be interested in going to Nanaimo for a 'chat' so off we went.......................after a 2hr 30min 'chat' he was told there would be a job here when we came permanently. Then we spent our waiting time worrying that it would all pan out as we didn't have much contact with the future employer at all, but it was fine & he started work 4 weeks after we got here. He is now working his notice as he has another job..........................I would be typing all day to try & explain why he is leaving so I will try & get him to post something later!! |

I'm going over for a vist myself in 4 weeks so I may get some resumes done and have a look around while I'm in Ontaril. Karma sent |

I think it is better that way- though it is tricky for the company to take you on board because they have to prove that they could not find a Canadian resident to do the job, if you are worth it the effort is made.
