Long term health insurance for Elderly
Does anyone know any good companies where we can long term health insurance for an elderly person. We need to put this in place for a specialised visa application.

These companies, usually used for short term medical insurance, while newly arrived expats are waiting to enroll in their provincial health insurance plan, might be a starting point:
Canadasure
Manulife
Blue Cross
Sunlife
Greenlife
Great West Life

I discovered that it has a lot to do with the age of the person. My Mom wanted to come over here again when she was over 85 and I never did find a company who was willing to insure her.

From a drug expense point of view dont those residents over 65 get some sort of welfare freeby?

I would say you are correct.
From the CIC website.
What does it mean to sponsor? When you agree to sponsor, you must sign an undertaking. The undertaking is a promise to provide financial support for your spouse or common-law partner’s basic requirements and those of his or her dependent children.
Note: Basic requirements are food, clothing, shelter and other needs for everyday living. Dental care, eye care and other health needs not covered by public health services are also included. The undertaking ensures the applicant and his or her dependent children do not have to apply for social assistance.

Saga in the UK may be able to help you, my father in law got travel insurance to visit us even though he was in his late 70's with Cancer. But I suspect that may be limited to 3 months.

Hi folks,
just been reading this thread and find it very interesting. We are trying to find some insurance for my Mum & Dad that have a few on going conditions. They have been in touch with Saga and they said basically, no thanks we can insure you? recommended another company, but they quoted up to £3000 for one month cover
We have been in touch with Dan Pucher, very good cover at a good price, but we are a bit concerned about being covered by an Canadian insurance broker, when Mum & Dad are living in UK. But I keep mentioning that they will only use this cover to visit us, when we have relocated to Calgary, then if there is any problems, we can deal with it our end
Hi Judy,
these insurance companies you added,
Canadasure
Manulife
Blue Cross
Sunlife
Greenlife
Great West Life
do they do travel insurance or is it just for people that plan to stay in Canada??
The main problem with Mum and Dads insurance cover is that my Mum has had two small strokes, the last one being about 5-6 months ago. She mentioned that as soon as she mentions the strokes (TIA's Transient Ischemic Attack) that the insurance companies put the cover price up? Also that it is only recently been able to get her blood pressure under control, but that is now stable. We read on the Dan Pucher information that the on going conditions have to be stable for 4 months.
Is there anybody out that could advice please?
Anybody gone through what we are going through???
Many thanks to all,
Carl

Hi,
I met a couple recently that have an elderly mother living with them on a visitors visa, awaiting Permanent Residency via the family re-unification process. It seemed that while on a visitors visa, no access to the world of subsidized medicine (BC Health). They had to hope that nothing major happened. You can register with a GP and pay for each visit, and also pay for your drugs as you go along.
I'm not an expert on this. But I'm sure that there's a enquiry number you can phone for the province you're in.
Hope this helps,
Sarah
