Down town is easy to drive from the east, just miss out the 401 after Whites Road and use Kingston Road all the way to the end of the DVP/Lakeshore. |

Re: Location ...GTA
Hi,
We live in the Scarborough Bluffs area. Scarborough, in general, has a bad rep but we have been here almost a year and have had no issues. We love our village. Our son had just finished AS level maths, physics, chemistry & biology when we arrived. He went to the local High School, which has an IB program, and had no trouble fitting in. Our daughter (13) will start there in Sept. We are on the Lakeshore East GO, it takes 25 mins to Union. My son takes the TTC downtown as it's cheaper. Driving downtown is easy but we rarely do it. Good luck with your move, feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Regards, Deeny |
Re: Location ...GTA
thanks for replies, Will deffo look into all your areas, ive been looking At IB schools for my son......did your son do the two years or just one once you arrived after his as levels?
My son would be very suited to the IB programme, its actullay somethong hes applied to do for sixth form over here....... but my dd will be 14 in June and is not as bright as her brother so im not sure it will be for her, im not sure i like idea of diffrent schools for them, something well have to consider....means looking at more than one school in an area.......is this a common thing? I know over here its quite normal for siblings to attend diffrent secondary schools.....? Ok and ill probably be laughed at but whats a blue collar , my canadian friend talked about some places being blue collar towns?......i didnt ask her about that one, i did mean to! |

One child could participate in the IB program at a school while the other follows the dunce's route but the former will come to look down on the other as a white collar Canadian would a blue collar one. |

Blue collar workers perform manual tasks. White collar workers sit at desks. Towns with a lot of tract housing, Barrie, Oshawa, Ajax are thought of as being blue collar by people who live in marginally better areas, such as Oakville/Mississauga north of the QEW. As in the UK, such distinctions are primarily important to the petit bourgeois, I doubt anyone living in St. Jamestown or Oakville south of the QEW much cares.

Oh yes. That's what IB students call non-IB students in the same school. I sought to highlight, briefly, that enrolling one child in an elitist program and not the other child would likely lead to conflict.

Re: Location ...GTA
Hi, try looking at Burlington, just along from Oakville. Is a mixture of new and older housing, they have an IB program at Robert Bateman school, is on the GO line. Lots of Brit expats here.
