A little help please?

Hi Guys,
I have a small problem ok a big problem! :D
I have loved Canada since I started going there to visit back in 1993 only problem is as follows:
I have spent 22 years in the army during which i have worked in Canada in that capacity but due to me having been in a Cavalry Regiment i really have no Quals to mention. No degree yet. All i really left with was my HGV1. I am playing catch up with quals by doing open university and NVQ's with my new job in the NI Civil Service in client services which is an adminstartive type job as an Administrative Officer.
I would rather not go down the Trucking route as i have a partner and a 5 week old baby that I would rather see grow up not miss half of it away trucking for 14 days then home for 3 days if I am lucky. I have loads of experience but no quals to reflect this after all who in civvie street needs a 30mm gunnery instructor lol.
Also I have a monthly pension from the army does that count towards the money criteria?
Has anybody got any ideas here as i am at my wits end. Apart from hope for a miracle of course!!
Any advice would be welcome
Cheers
total dreamer
P.S forgot to mention It is AB and Calgary area that i am narrowing my move too as i love there and is a stone throw from BC. I know this is more like Career advice too!
