list of things shipping to Canada
Hi
Was wondering if anyone could help me I have just found out that I have to list everything that I am sending over via ship and in my suit case when I land in Canada for first time as an immigrant. Just how picky are they ? Would be so grateful for some advice . |

Re: list of things shipping to Canada
Use your removal company (if using one) list to go off of and then do an excel spreadsheet with the goods to follow i.e. 5 boxes of bedding, 3 boxes of books, 6 boxes of kitchen ware etc, etc. This was sufficient when we moved and having it typed on an excel sheet was very much appreciated by the Border agency officer - she was glad to have it so concise without reams of unnecessary paper attached to the form. She told me that it is most definitely not required to list every item individually. However estimate costs of the boxes in Canadian dollars - exact costs are not needed. With goods accompanying estimate cost of contents i.e ladies clothes $1000, mens clothes $3000, toiletries $200, 4 suitcases $1000. The people arriving next to us had not done this for the goods accompanying and the officer dealing with them got quite agitated when the lady said that their 5 suitcases amounted to $500 including all contents - this did not go down well at all!! It is not as exhasting as it sounds - honest!

Re: list of things shipping to Canada
I am little worried. I just now received a standard letter from the secondary shipper of our household goods that says that. Customs expects a detailed inventory of our goods.
The list the moving company gave us was pretty vague, "box materials" and "box books" being their favourite notations. The goods are now on a ship to Canada and I have no way of knowing exactly what is each box. They left three weeks ago and are due to arrive on the 29 October. Am I in for a big hassle or inspection in Candian customs? |
