Letter from IQAS
The postman delivered a letter today from IQAS (International Qualifications Assessment Services), they have received my application and assessment should take 8-10 weeks.
They will then pass this onto the CPRNA who will then say I'm eligable to register as a psychiatric nurse in Alberta and calgary Health can then apply for a LMO. Doesn't it get exciting when things start to come together :D Sharon |
Re: Letter from IQAS
Sounds like things are really moving for you.:D
It's weird how in BC the regulatory bodies do their own assessment but for Calgary you need to send stuff off to IQAS first. I wonder if the fees are different too ;) You had better warn your postie that you may be bothering them a lot in about 8 weeks time and that it won't stop until you've left the country. Kabel |
Re: Letter from IQAS
$100 per assessment for IQAS, then fees for CRPNA $125 for assessment to see if your eligible for practice. Rest of the fees will come later :frown:.
Will I be able to claim my fee's back from NMC if I leave UK before registration is due, or is it best to remain on the register? Sharon |
Re: Letter from IQAS
Hi Sharon,
Not too different with the initial fees then. The CRNBC wanted $212. About the NMC, I have no idea. I was planning on giving them a ring or email eventually and see what the options are. When they only charged £60 every 3 years I would have said stay registered as I know you can put down that you are working outside of the country. Now the fee is going up even more and it's more a year then it was for 3 . As the annual renewal fee in Canada is lot bigger than we are used to here I don't know if I'd want that additional expense when I'd be getting nothing for it. Other than perhaps ease of registering back with them if I chose to return to the UK. Even saying that I don't know if it would be that easy as surely you'd have to prove PREP to them before they'd let you practise. And that would require correspondence between registering bodies in Canada and the NMC (and god knows what the NMC would charge for that - I'm still trying to get over the £34 for just stating that I am registered with them and posting it airmail ). I sincerely doubt that the NMC would give you any kind of refund on the annual amount if you left before the year was up. You never know they might surprise me... Kabel :) |
Re: Letter from IQAS
I'm still trying to get over the £34 for just stating that I am registered with them and posting it airmail ). What really bugs me though is they already know that the qualifications are equilivent to Canadian ones before they get all the transcripts, it's just a money making scam, that you have to pay if you want out. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask:curse: Sharon |
Re: Letter from IQAS
£60 for your transcripts .
That is a rip off. I know the universities can charge what they like, but you would have thought you would see some similarities in the amounts. For me it should have been £20 per request. I say should have because I am lucky to have my FIL work as a nurse tutor at my SoN so he went and made the request to the right person, said he was paying for me and OH so the woman did them as a job lot for £20 for the both. The original amount is still 3 times yours though . I didn't get a copy either. I suppose I don't really need one but it would be nice to know what was written down and to have a copy in the event of the original going missing. Such is my faith in the postal system. ;) I got a letter today from CRNBC acknowledging that they were processing my application, giving me a file No. and then saying that they were still waiting for my transcripts. They got sent on 31st May. Now the optimist in me is saying that they obviously got sent via surface mail, therefore will take another couple of weeks to arrive. I'm unable to confirm this at the SoN yet as the person I need is off sick...typical. However I am very much the pessimist usually and so can pretty much guarantee that it will have got lost in the post and I'll have to request them again...and pay again. Will just try and keep breathing deeply and evenly.... Kabel :D |
Re: Letter from IQAS
fingers crossed they have received them and your documents are being assessed as we speak. How long is the processing in BC?

All I had to do was fill in their application form and get NMC to send over a copy of my training record and proof that i was reg with them. This cost £46 in all I think to NMC, plus CARNA cost. The verification to reg took only 6 weeks. I then got myself a job and the LMO took less than a week. I don't understand why I didn't have to use IQAS unless the only diff is that I am RGN. It doesn't seem fair that you have had to pay this extra Good luck, it will all come together, then the panic really sets in!! jo |

Got told at the recruitment drive we went to that it could be up to 6 months . And that for my RMN OH up to 3 months as there are less applications so quicker processing. That being said another nurse on here that went to the same thing at RCN Congress as me, but who was more organised than we are and sent her CRNBC stuff off earlier, has received her eligibility to sit CRNE and I think that took around a month....so who knows :D. I think I should learn the art of patience...I think over the coming months it might be to stave off insanity. Of course being a nurse that may already be too late :lol: |
Re: Letter from IQAS
Didn't think you could be sane being a nurse :o.
I find it hard just going to work, any the frustrating things about working in the NHS are getting even more unbearable now I know i'm getting out of it. It's the handing in your notice syndrome come early, where you can't be bothered as you know your going. It's harder cause everything we're doing is geared to moving (decorating, reccee in Sept, searching for ways to get dogs over, collecting documents .....), yet there is no end date to focus on yet. I know it's not going to be perfect in Canada, but at the moment I've got more of me invested in Canada than I have in the UK. I just want to be there . The HR lady said process should take 6-8 months, so based on that we're looking Jan 08. OH is worried about moving in Jan but we'll have to see. Jo, I don't know why I had to provide extra stuff:(, it's not fair. They know I'm eligable as the manager who interviewed me was from scotland and said it wag good I did P2000 as there would be no problem with registration. Just a way to make mney I think. Panic is setting in when you realise what you've yet to do. Never mind this time next year I'll be in Canada:thumbsup:. I'm just glad I've got a job, I'd be a wreck if I had to wait the other 3 yrs plus if we'd stuck to SW route. Sharon |

So the processing for that has taken from 11th June (when they banked the application fee) to the 22nd June.:D We are both in a bit if shock at the quickness of it all. We've mentally prepared for a little longer so depending on how long job offers/LMO/WP takes we could be out sooner than we thought. Or if future employers don't mind waiting for PNP maybe we could stick to the original plan. Decisions...decisions! They can take as long as they like now to process me as I'll just get an open spousal permit on the back of OH's. He's the one that's going to be getting the regular full time job offer anyway to get the WP/PNP in the first place. |
Re: Letter from IQAS
Congratulations :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thats quick. Wow decisions, decisions, are you ready to move yet? You could be spending xmas in canada:blink:. Your OH will have to let me know what the psych exam is like when he sits it. My postman just delivered sh*te this morning (hubbys bank statement ). Sharon |
Re: Letter from IQAS
Thanks Sharon
Unfortunately I am unable to discuss anything with my OH as he has decided to go out to the pub with a neighbour. Maybe he should take the bloody neighbour to Canada. Kabel :) |
