Incidentally, I told Mrs AX the story behind your username, she was most amused and has taken to describing me in a similar vein. Apols for breach of copyright..... I am an author, as it happens. |

You asked the question, then you said it's probably unanswerable! :p I didn't select yes or no yet, but I think my answer might be "no" starting from where we are now, and YES based on how we were then! OMG I think I'm joining the ranks of the terminally confused too! :scared: |
Re: Let's be honest
Under the curcumstances I came here, Young, Single, Job Offer in hand on a work permit I would come again in the blink of an eye, even though I didnt have any major beef with the UK (except I couldnt afford anything!).
Under current curcumstances, reasonable established life, wife, 2 young kids, would I risk all for a leap into the unknown. Not a chance, especialy with a 4 or 5 year wait now for skilled worker. I know now that happyness is who you are with, not where you are with them. Those who come to this site often know how much I like Canada, but for me it would be way too much uncertainly to risk turning a faimily on its head for. The UK just isnt that bad. But then I never had a problem with living in the UK. Until I had the chance to try living here relatively risk free I had not ever thought of leaving. |

Re: Let's be honest
Would i do it if i had my time again? Yes.
Would i do it now, returning to the UK and then deciding to join the back of the 51-month line? Not a chance. |

Re: Let's be honest
No surprises in my vote.!!!! If I could go down the same road again, I would still take it.
This move lifted myself and my hubby from the rut we had got into, gave us a new start, a new focus and we think a better lifestyle. No regrets. |
Re: Let's be honest
Seeing as you ruled me out so I can't vote - a spouse with a work permit and hubby on a work permit!
I would definately do it again even if they turn round and deny us PR status at this stage (we applied for PR in 2004 and are still waiting) I believe this make life a little more stressful than those of you who came when you got PR status as the buggers could turn round and kick us out. Would we do it this way again MOST DEFINATELY, although we would prefer to come as PR's to be here at all is worth it, we love it here and would really like to stay please. Saying that if they say we don't want you here - we would definately NOT go back to UK - don't know where we wold go as Canada has spoilt the rest of the world for us! |

As long as I was given Carte Blanche to deport tossers. |

I get a tad annoyed with some posters on here who regret moving because they miss marmite or "proper" Heinz tomato soup (you do know it's American?), but, on reflection I have sympathy with those folk who are at the back of a 4 year queue to come here and then look for a job. There is no way in hell I'd do that. Why not stay in the EU, where you have a right to work? Believe me, having to learn a second or third language from scratch is not that hard and in fact is the one thing I'm most pleased with about how things have worked out for me. Peace and prosperity. |

[QUOTE=Calgal]Heinz is a US company, yes! But Heinz soup UK style, is completely different to Heinz soup North American style. [QUOTE]
Perhaps, but is this reallly critical? [QUOTE] The "right" to work, is true both sides of the pond - actually GETTING that work, is whole different ball game, in my opinion.[QUOTE] As I said, I would never have moved without going to a job I thought represented career progress. The right to work does not automatically exist on both sides of the pond for people crossing it. After all that is what most people on here are concerned about. By the way, is that you in your Avatar? I think I'm in love. |

My daughter says it does look like me when I 'pull that face', though....lol (don't see it myself) |

All ok in the end though. |

In answer to the thread topic my response is 'without a doubt and no regrets whatsoever'. |

This thread is adding a whole new dimension to the forum. Think Peter Ustinov with less hair. |

That being said, I'd stay here even if we separated. I'd probably move to a different part of the country but I'd stay here. |

Re: Let's be honest
I'm getting laid off from my nice comfy job of ten years in June - it's kind of a voluntary arrangement.
Haven't really done anything useful apart from push papers and avoid my upstart Scottish junior for the last couple of years. I hear from a bunch of people who skipped the UK to get away from IR35 (blame the Scottish upstart) that Canada is a great place to go if you haven't any useful skills - lets face it (smiles ironically for the camera, pause) I don't know what I can do that is useful. Maybe I could open a B&B in the atlantic provinces? Or maybe be a teacher in the prairies? Any ideas welcome! PS. Could you sponsor me? |
