Landing in BC!
Finally, after several years of waiting, in the end of October this year we are landing in BC.
A little bit nervous, but it is OK I guess. :fingerscrossed: Thank you all who are sharing and helping here, it was really helpful! Anyone can recommend a temporary place to stay in BC for two weeks? We are couple, landing on 23 of October and hoping to finalize all official paperwork in Canada during this time, residence permit, driving license, social security, check for a nice neighborhood, you know. After that on, 03rd of November, we are flying back, to finalize all stuff here, house blah, blah. So can anyone recommend a temporary place to stay in BC for two? We checked the Craig list, but there are some many adverts. Just afraid of the scam. You are the best Guys and Gals! Thanks you all |

Re: Landing in BC!
Thank you!
Oh yes my apologies, Vancouver it is! We thought about Burnaby or Richmond because need to run in some many places. In relatively close proximity in relation to official building. But it is not so important, if sky train line is available. |
Re: Landing in BC!
Just to reiterate Aviator's point, for just a couple of weeks I'd stay in a hotel.

Re: Landing in BC!
Agreed on a hotel/motel.
Also, you keep your UK driver's license for the moment. Don't swap it until you move here to live. |

You are the best Guys and Gals! Thanks you all This place was recommended to us as inexpensive but good value and location by people who live on Vancouver Island and occasionally stay in the city for pleasure or business. The rooms are small, but then if you are going to be out and about and busy then perhaps a huge room isn't worth the money. Let me know if you try it out! Re driving license - just not necessary to swap it so far in advance. Just wait until you are in Canada permanently. |

Do you think there might be problems with UK traffic police or DVLA?
On a more practical side, where are they going to send your new driver's license? Any reliable and not so expensive hotel recommended? Thanks The chain hotels offer reasonably priced rooms that are clean and comfortable rather than luxurious. I have stayed at the Quality Inn on False Creek a few times and this is a good standard chain hotel. They will charge you an average $107.50 a night (taxes included) for that period. In most downtown hotels parking is around $20 a night. There are several chain hotels in the downtown area, and more across the Lower Mainland, that offer similar quality/value. Away from downtown you usually get free parking. As well as the Quality/Comfort Inn chain you can look at Sandman, Best Western, Holiday Inn and so on. Given the choice I would suck up the parking and stay downtown. In the suburbs the chain hotels are not always in the most attractive locations. |
