Many lakes are much bigger than in the UK ...........

these are all natural lakes, ie not formed after the building of dams ............

Babine Lake near Smithers is 177 km long (ca 110 miles)

Okanagan Lake, as mentioned, is 135 km (90 miles) long, maximum depth 232 m (ca 761')

Canim Lake in the Cariboo region of BC is 45 km long, over 200 m (684') deep at the deepest point (average depth 84 m / 276').

In contrast, the longest lake in the UK is apparently Lough Neagh in Ireland at 40 km long, maximum depth 25 m

Lake Windermere has a area of just under 6 sq miles

you're not talking tiddly lakes over here

To me, Lake Ontario is just like a very calm sea. You can't see land at the other side, unless you are looking to and from Niagara to Toronto sort of area.

Seen quite a few beavers and snapping turtles when fishing up north. Didn't see any fish though, lol.

Can't speak for the Okanagan lakes, but stunning as the Great Lakes are they really aren't the same as living by the sea. That said, I agree that having a job you enjoy with a salary that provides the standard of living you want is worth much more, and gives you the means to visit the coast.
