Unhappy Ladies - A question for you re medicals

Has anyone been declined PR due to an abnormal smear?

My last one (5 years ago) was abnormal, had colposcopy and then clear.

I'm currently awaiting the results for my most recent one (takes 6 weeks and they were done 3 weeks ago), which has delayed our meds being forwarded to CHC (meds done 23rd May).

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm quite, well very aprehensive that if it's abnormal again we may be refused.

Thanks
Mel

Hi,
I've had a colposcopy in the past too. When I did my medicals the doctor suggested we do another smear, just in case it was asked for later - then It was already done so no more waiting. He also did a pretty invasive pelvic exam, never had anything like it before and never want one again, much worse than a smear and we all know how much we look forward to those NOT.

Didn't have any problems with medicals, wasn't asked for further tests or anything and we are now proud owners of those very pretty PR cards.

I know it's easy to say not to worry - you will worry about any possible obstacle - we had several obstacles including my husband not being daughters biological father (and we didn't have idiot brainses permission), he has very high blood pressure and also had emergency surgery for kidney stones (since we got here on work permits) and he has a biological son in the UK. We got the OK in the end

So very best of luck with your application and your test results.

Thanks, I just don't want to be the one to let the side down, you know. I put it off and put it off and now my procrastinating may turn round and bite me in the ample rear.

I shall just await the postman's van for the next three weeks.

Just curious, did your OH have these medical conditiions prior to leaving the UK and does he now get treated via Medicare for them or is it a private health insurance coverage thing?

Just worrying as my partner is on long term sick with a mental condition and wondering if he'll be let in next spring with a pre-existing condition and whether or not we will have to pay for his treatment..

Put it this way - when OH had his bilateral hernia op before we put our PR application in he didn't have high blood pressure, by the time it came to getting our medicals done he has high blood pressure His health plan through work covers 80% of prescription medication.

Not that I would wish this on anyone but I had stage 2b cervical cancer, was diagnosed and treated (chemo & radiation) during the long wait for PR. I was just 1 year clear when we did our meds and we got our PR last month!
I don't think an abnormal smear would be too much of a problem, I feel confident that they would at worst get you to have another colposcopy.
Good luck.

Hi Daedra,
Good to see you back . I have seen people with pre- existing mental
health illness granted PR., never seen visitors with no health insurance
being turned away by my hospital. All get treated the same like Canadians.
Uncollectible billings are absorbed by the hospital .
Lots from south of the border, treated and a free trip back .
If for some reasons they want to stay in Canada, SW is on board
to point them the way to Immigration or a phone call for the
CIC staff to interview them in the hospital.

Your partner could try and apply to emigrate here you never know.
Good luck,
Yoong

Thanks Daedra,
If your partner's symptoms are under control with meds and counselling.

any questions. If I can't answer, I have my friendly docs. at work
for advice. Take care

We were in the exact situation, boys had the meds done at the end of August, I was already booked in for colposcopy for sept 11 (the sept 11th). Husband phoned me at the hospital and I thought it was to wish me luck....but no he was at Heathrow and knew about the first tower so phoned me to tell me!!. It was a bad night.... I thought I was going to stop us all going to Canada and the news on the TV was terrible.

When I got the letter of all clear, I just sent it to the immigration service. I had to have a check up 6 months later which I did the week before we emigrated over. I was then told to have a smear every year, but that is the norm over here.

Thanks for your response, it's not a great subject to discuss so I appreciate your reply, and that of everyone else.

Postman avoiding our house now I think. Crazy lady stalking him!
