Currently renting in Marysville while I build us a house just up the road in Forest Crowne.
Much happier here and have found everyone friendly and often willing to chat. Took up a bit of snowshoeing last winter and take the occasional hike this time of year. To be honest though the house build is taking up most of our time as I'm doing a lot of the work myself.
The series of 'First Saturdays' has begun and there will be various entertainments and programmes on the first Saturday of each month.
Main shopping can be done in Cranbrook as there are several supermarkets there, if that's your thing. Plenty of organic produce in town though and the Farmer's Market starts next week.
Don't have any views on the schools as we are well past that stage of life.
All in all we reckon it's a great place to be.

Awesome! That's the second positive about Kimberley on here!!

Just wanted to add that we've been in Kimberley for just over a month now and love it. It does seem to be holding on to its old reputation......(sleepy and Bavarian) which is fine, it'll keep the investors away!!. It really is a great place. Plenty to do and lots or friendly people. I'm so glad that I ignored the doubters on here and made the decision based on what I felt when I visited. Kids very happy too :-)

I didn't pay much attention to this thread before but given most of us seem to prefer most things European, one would think Bavarian was an advantage.

I does feel more European to me but I think that is because I tend to walk everywhere now. In Ontario it felt like I spent most of my time behind the wheel. Its also not flat here!

The whole Bavarian theme seems to have died out a few years ago and been replaced by nice shops & pubs.

Holy wow! Just did an image search for Leavenworth. Crazy!

People that have been here a few years say that a few years ago, if you wanted to go out for a meal you had a choice of schnitzel, schnitzel or yep you guessed it!

There are still the remnants of Bavarianism (a couple of Bavarian themed restaurants and the world famous cuckoo clock!) but the Bavarian thing is mostly in the past now.

I know exactly where you're coming from! I spoke to him a few weeks ago outside his restaurant and yeah he didn't give off food safety vibes. I think its mostly tourists that go there.

You'll find that any small town in BC that had a ski slope back in the 1970s into the early 1980s has a Bavarian theme

They all received grants from the Provincial Government to spruce themselves up ........... there are "Bavarian" main streets in Smithers, Kimberley, and at least 3 other places. The idea was to inveigle more tourists to visit.

I think they all used the same architect to plan their "new look"

What's wrong, or even slightly unusual, about that? (I assume a straight, obviously if he forgets that he's cooking that could be a problem).

They're all ersatz Bavaria, just as much of Victoria is ersatz British

American visitors love the olde English atmosphere ..................... and the Bavarian look went down well in the 70s and 80

Of course, many of the Americans do not know olde English, and most of those who went to the ski towns in the 79s and 89s had never been to Bavaria!

You didn't like the décor, or the food, or the fact that you can call any table in the place?
