Kids, schools & laptops.
 

For those of you with kids going to school is your school thinking of introducing laptops for all students?
Will this cause some commotion in who decides how this policy is introduced.
Will you as the parent be expected to provide the laptop or will the school provide them and each child receives the same laptop for equality purposes so not to feel left out when typing on their Asus and the kid next to them has the Mac Book Pro.
How many websites will the school need to block so kids arent pissing around texting, chatting or social media interacting?

Something similar is already in place at the state school my kids go to. All the computers in the school are Macs and they seem to change them with alarming regularity and they give them away!

My kids went to one of the first interactive primary schools in the UK if not the world..they had their own personal computers and laptops and class rooms looked more like lecture theatres at Uni..they even had a few documentaries about the school and this was back in 2006.

Yeah but remember this is Canada and we are so far behind in a lot of things :lol:

The same story was in the news in Edmonton over a year ago..when schools introduced the use of ipads and encouraged kids to bring laptops to school etc..maybe Manitoba is a year or so behind Alberta:thumbup:

it's now common practice for kids to have laptops in school and they can bought in the UK through subsidised schemes. Schools all have pretty strict firewalls on their networks - for example the school I taught in, even staff were unable to access Facebook / Hotmail through the network. Anyone buying their kid a MB Pro and letting them take it to school is a muppet if you ask me ! The more rugged, the better imo :-)

Its a non issue isnt it? By High school the majortity of kids have a notebook of some sort, schools have strict network rules, and peer pressure is just something kids have to learn to deal with anyway, whether is be what computer they have, the latest aeropostale shirt, or what brand of sneakers they wear.

I think they should provide those expensive calculators TI whatevers first - or at least be able to rent them like books from the school bookstores.

We made a mistake last year in getting my daughter a different model calculator after reading reviews it was supposed to be a better one. She's doing calculus this year so we will most likely have to by a TI so she can actually learn with the rest of the class:thumbdown:
