Our kids are 14 & 8, so your older ones will be fine, I presume half your luggage will be made up of DS lites/PSPs ,chargers ( don't forget car chargers) and games!!

You are a bit mad if you go in a 27ft with 6 of you!! If it is Canadream, I would contact them direct to try to get the 30ft, there's a huge difference between the 2!. After our first trip in a 29ft with 2 slide outs we looked in a 27ft MH, as we had thought of going to the Yukon the next year and that's about as big as you can rent there. We immediately thought no chance! Way too small for 4 of us, maybe we are just very fussy!
If it is Fraserway, I know (because we did it!) that if you hassle Canadian Affair they can get the 29ft with a slide out, I think we paid very slightly more.http://www.fraserway.com/content21.asp?nav=107417& shows the vehicle, changed in layout from when we rented and only one slide out now.

Yes, we are moving to the Okanagan (CIC and selling house permitting), hopefully as soon as possible next year. Kids are now very excited and keen, they loved the lifestyle they saw over there. They want to spend their summers on the lakes & mountain biking and the winters snowboarding. They liked the look of the houses, youngest who loves playing football, was reassured by the sight of lots of "soccer" pitches. Lots of nice young ladies helped the older boy and being told his accent would be cool;) A reccie really does help from a kids point of view. They were both dead against it before we went, even though we had been to BC on holiday before.

You should contact Canadream and ask them about the awning and jenny, I don't think they put them on a rental, so you are going to need shade if it gets hot, if you are planning on making the campground your home base I would strongly advise that you hire a small car to get around in for day trips, because everyday it is a pain to break it all down and if you are tired when you arrive back at the camp site it is so nice just to walk in and put the kettle on, just my thoughts from lots of years of camping. Just want to add the best way to meet people is by camping they are all friendly and very helpful if you are not familiar with the RV. Good Luck and enjoy.

Yes, I will definitely get in touch with Canadream with regards the size of the RV and the awning, cheers all. My 14 year old is really excited as he really loves outdoor life and sports. The youngest 2 are really not bothered ha, just looking forward to holidays!!!. Our middle daughter just wants to swim in a lake!!!:)

Someone posted a great link to weather stats the other day http://www.on.ec.gc.ca/weather/winners/city.cfm. Take a look and you'll see what I mean, it's something to need to bear in mind when looking at areas to live.

Agreed a large motorhome is the way to go with 4 kids, I couldn't bear packing and unpacking for 6 every few days. I would actually go a little bigger than you, the layouts of the slightly larger ones seem to give more space than you would think for the extra foot or two. But the most important thing is to try to get slide outs. They look tiny from the outside but somehow give me the illusion of loads more space inside. Our first 2 MHs had 2 slide outs, this year we had one larger one in the living area, but I really missed a bedroom one. With 4 kids , I would want every inch of space I could get! Who are you renting from?

If your kids are only young, maybe the reccie bit isn't as relevant as they wouldn't tolerate hours driving around, and it will mean nothing to them. Mine were old enough to pay attention at least some of the time, and understood the importance. We wanted the opinion of both of them as well.

First time we went to Penticton we couldnt get over the heat. Sitting on Skaha beach with the bluest skies is superb. My old man used to go on about how cold it is in Canada and he'd go off to Florida every year. They were stunned when we took them for a weekend.

She'll have lakes aplenty!! The Okanagan lakes are supposed to be "warm" lakes, although they all felt freezing to my toe. Sons said they were cold as well but 8 year old loved them. Very nice lakes/beaches with water slides either end of Penticton. And at Skaha Beach the is a water park for the younger kids.http://www.tourismpenticton.com/thingstodo/beaches.aspx

The's also tubing down the channel, looked great fun but the rain stopped us.http://www.coyotecruises.ca/
Loco landing has really crazy golf, even older teenagers were playing. And a great go cart track .http://www.locolanding.com/

Vernon also has swimming lakes, Kalamalka is said by National geographic to in the top 10 most beautiful, but the beach isn't as nice as Penticton's. No slide but has a pier the the kids jump off - safe and ok for 8 year old. Also try beaches at Ellison Paint Provincial park, on Okanangan Lake, nice little beaches but signs up warning of swimmers itch, didn't seem to stop the locals, maybe ask them, what it's like when you're there.http://www.vernonbeaches.com/vernon_bc_ellison.htm this is a good site for all local beaches to keep kids happy!

There is also a water slide park, saw it but rain and lack of time meant we didn't go so can't comment about how good it is.http://www.vernonbeaches.com/vernon_bc_ellison.htm

Go up to the to of Silver Star and terrify yourself as your 14 year old says he wants to go mountain biking like the body armoured lunatics you watch hurtling down sheer rock:eek:http://www.skisilverstar.com/home_sh...on_ID_160.html
