Keeping PR status

Is it true that you have to be in Canada for 2 years out of 5 years in order to maintain your PR staus?

Yes it is true. You need to keep a record of you activity in and out of Canada if you do move around quite a bit. Receipts, airline tickets, etc.
I read about it in another thread. I had assumed once you were there that was it your in. But it is as if you are just there temporarily for 5 years, or until you decided to go for citizenship. You appear to have to keep renewing.
I suggest you keep a diary backed up with evidence. In our case apart form the odd trip back to UK, and holiday to USA, we don't intend to leave Canada that often, so do not see a problem.
