Kamloops

We are hoping to make the move next year and wondered what peoples views are on Kamloops. I will be away with work a lot so need something to keep the missus and a small boy occupied but also want access to camping, shopping etc....when i'm home.

What do you guys think of Kamloops as we love the look of it from what we've read but wanted to hear it from the horses mouth, so to speak. :)

I lived in Kamloops for 8+years. I'd suggest you visit to decide if it's somewhere you want to settle or not.

It offers all you need on a day to day basis and the local countryside is easily accessible for camping, boating and other recreation. It's a pretty safe place and your family will be well served by local amenities while you're away.

Just checking, but as you mention 'the missus', you're aware that BC isn't one of the provinces where she'd be able to get a SOWP? She may well be happy not working, but just thought I'd mention it just in case.

I live in Kamloops. I've been here for the past 8+ years too, planning to leave next year to head back to Europe. It's a very safe town, surrounded by wonderful open country with easy access to ski-ing, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, hiking ... you get the picture. Excellent road system through and around Kamloops although the main road (the Coquihalla), a mountain pass, down to Vancouver is occasionally impassable for a few hours with snow. But it's always cleared as a priority. I live in the Aberdeen area of Kamloops and, as a single female living on my own, I've always felt safe here. It is very much a family-oriented town; with a child you'll be accepted immediately!

If there's any specific questions you want answering, ask away or feel free to PM me.

I moved to Kamloops at the end of June and my husband works away sometimes, but I feel safe here with the kids. Beautiful in the summer and it's not to cold yet, and very little rain. I feel at home here and have no intentions of going back to the UK unless we have to. Only downside are the clothes shops my daughter and I buy everything from the UK online.
