Kamloops
Hi there,
My wife and I are looking at nursing in Kamloops British Columbia but don't know much about it. We're planning on coming over but in the mean time we have heard differing reports on the lifestyle there. Can anyone fill us in on what it's like as a community to live in? Crime rates, house prices, schooling, weather etc etc. Thanks in advance Bert |

You want that ? Plus.......Golf. Rodeo. Mountain biking. Hiking. Skiing (two resorts, one small one large). The locals will come along shortly to provide a tour guide experience. I kinda like the Loops; in it's own way, it's down to earth, slow pace of life, blue collar, less expensive than some places, has plenty infrastructure for a small city. Doesn't have an attitude, it is what it is, WYSIWYG, it's a real place. Less snobby and plastic than Kelowna. Less cranky old people too. I just wish they'd fix that stinking wood pulp stinking thing.:frown: R. |

There are loads of previous threads on Kamloops, the search facility will provide you with all the information you could possibly need.
This winter was mild with very little snow, last summer was rubbish apparently, only got to 37c  |

Fixed by closing it down. Good for the environment, bad for employment.
Dark coloured canine person - drop me an email with any specific questions you've got :) Thanks for your reply. We really just want to know what Kamloops is like for a family like us i.e. we're both 50 have young kids 11 and 9 and want somewhere nice and relaxed but where our kids can prosper and have a good quality of life. We currently live in rural England which is nice but I worry for our kids in terms of how overcrowded U.K. is getting and how stressed everyone seems to be. Any info would be much appreciated on the Kamloops area...some photos would be brilliant !! All the best Bert |

House prices are now about 7x the average salary so for first time buyers with a small down payment, things are becoming tough. I'm telling you all the negative stuff because it's more important to know than looking at photos. There is crime here bit its mainly petty stuff, drugs, car break ins etc. Hardly any violent crime, and I cannot remember there being a murder since coming here last July but I'm sure someone will prove me wrong on that. The stinky pulp mill is staying unfortunately; it's the saw mill that is shutting down. Unless you live over by the airport you hardly ever get a whiff of it. Don't be fooled by the people who tell you it stinks, I have never smelt it and I work downtown. Now that all the bad stuff has been said, I think Kamloops is great and we are really happy here. |

I can provide info on employment opportunities to schools, life style etc. |
