Re: JUst so say hello
Hi
Hope you did well on the crne. How do you find the nursing over there? what background were you from in the uk? How have the Canadiamn Nurses responded to you? I have jsut sent my reume off to Calgary Health, but not heard anything yet. Have been offered a job provisionally in Edmonton, but would really prefer Calgary Fingers Crossed. What did you think of the CRNE? I thought it was more difficult that the practice book anyway. Loads of questions to ask. How have your children settled. How have you found the cold? Hopefully will speak to you again soon. Nice to hear from you |

Re: JUst so say hello
We have been in Okotoks (and working in Calgary) since April. Wifey is a nurse at Rockyview, after sitting and passing the CRNE last October, and seems very happy there. We have 2 boys (3 &5) and have settled very easily and have no regrets.
CHR is always recruiting and so you will not struggle to find a job. Sarah choose the hospital she wanted and the department she wanted, and then just approached the manager direct was offered a job within a week or two after a telephone interview from the UK. Kids are happy, and enjoy there new school, frends, community etc and are just so much more active - swimming, skating, Beavers etc. The cold has yet to be a real issue for us. We have had -16c and it felt no worse than a damp cold day of 0c in the UK. Our oldest walked to the school bus happily in -12c last week - so I think we will survive! Anyway, good luck. Nick |

Re: JUst so say hello
Hi
Do not worry about getting a job in calgary. There are vacancies everywhere. Having passed your exams and are registered as an RN with CARNA,many doors will open for you.I took the opportunity to try something new.Was a palliative care nurse in the UK and have made a move to Rheumatology. There is a new hospital being built in the South of the city,I believe it is going to be huge.CHR are predicting a huge recruitment problems for when that opens. My colleagues have been very welcoming and have made my transition very easy.It is -12 this morning. The cold is different here in Calgary. It is not a wet, damp biting cold.We have not found it uncomfortable yet,but ask me when temps dip even lower. My girls are loving life here. There are so many opportunities to get involved with so many activities,I think they have a better social life than me at the moment!!!Email me anytime with questions or queries. If you want me to check anything out for you.Which area would you like to nurse. When are you hoping to make the big move??Speak to you soon Sarah. |

Hi Wiggs 1034
Sounds like a good life you have out there, we were originally set for kelowna, got offered a job there last year but decided on Alberta in the end. Planning to go over probably next Sept, after my little boy finishes his pre school. Just need to find myself a job (nursing ) and husband who is a bricklayer have been offered one in Edmonton, but after a reccce in Oct, don't really think it is the place for us. Love Calgary though, and the flghts to the uk aren'e too bad either;) Nice to meet you anyhoo |
