Hi - we're off to Winnipeg next weekend - cripes best be packing instead of loitering around here - what am I thinking?!!

There's another poster here called BillyinScotland who will soon be a TruckerinWinnipeg. May be worth looking out for some of his earlier posts. Good luck in your application and if you need any advice on housing, weather, places to visit etc. let me know and I'll add them below.

Cheers for now ;)

[QUOTE]Originally posted by George-Ang , are planning to relocate to Winnipeg area, i am going as a trucker,

Hi George, as Craisydaisy says, i have a truck driving job in Winnipeg, i`ll be there in 3 weeks. ( And i hope to say hello to you CD, ) Not sure if you need any help, but whatever you may think of, ask me, and i`ll do anything i can. I have some friends in Retford, which i know is close to where you are in Donny. Don`t worry about the cold winters in Winnipeg, the natives are very friendly, and more than make up for the temperatures ;-).
I might even be able to put you in touch with some employers. ..............billy
P.S. Search old posts from crasydaisy and CJ for info on Winnipeg, some great links.

Hi George, I visited a few times, south of the Trans-Canada would be my choice of where to stay ( I know there will be some great places North of the TC, just my opinion) There are plenty Trucking companies struggling to find drivers who can cross the U.S.-Canada border, i`ll mail you privately if you need some names. I`m going to work for a small family business who have been brilliant to me during my application, more like friends than future employers. Let me know if you need any info..................billy

Winnipeg

My story so far, i initially tried with a company based near manchester called fourcorners, went to a seminar and the long and short of it all it they wanted nearly £30K to take us to canada set me up as an owner driver, the 30K included deposit on a rig, house rent for 6 months and so-on, in the end me and wife said no because they only offered 65% success, with only a 70% refund.... moving on about 18 months-----> 1 of the partners in 4corners broke away sold his share and setup his own company, he is canadian from quebec, COMPANY WBC&Co he sold up left manchester and as i said setup on his own, i got a letter in april 2003 asking if i was interested in trying again at a cost of £2900, to which i replied oh-yeh, he flew out to uk we met in york for a consultation, all seemed fine so we went ahead.... it was the intention that i would get a job offer and away we goooooo. NOT... i flew to Toronto in Sep 2003, stayed in a so called b&b, it was a couple of ex-pats renting spare room out, infact it was the whole basement, and i have to add for $50 it was "FANTASTIC" they picked up from aitport and took me all over, they actually emmigrated to canada in the 60's SEPERATELY" and met while there, ANYWAY, the idea of my visit was to go do a driver assessmen t"which i did" then go for an interview with a few companies.......... while i was in canada the same week so i am told, the Canadian gov't apparently changed the laws....... the long and short of it was. i could go to ontario and work 12 months then leave for a certain ammount of time and keep on doing so, it was like a 1 yr working visa.... BUT Manitoba was willing to take me on the job offer programme almost immediately once a job offer was in place, so i opted for this, flew back to uk.... got a job offer from bison haulage, all going well,,,,, then got a call from emmigration company saying RULEZZZZZZZZ had again changed and now i could apply for residency with NO job offer and move to any province i wished.....DOWNSIDE it would take about 18 months, but as i was a customer with WBC they said if i wanted to do this it would cost me no more, so i choose to go with thier advise, so as we stand now we submitted our paperwork.... or should i say, WBC submitted it in Nov 2003, and we got our CHC number on 24th Feb 2004... my only concerns now are i am 42 in May this year and am a bit anxious as to wether or not i might be a little too old when the time for visa issue is gonna happen, any thoughts? anyway, that is our story..... hope it clears things up for a few people. and i also add WBC is a great company plenty of phone calls and help. Worth the payment
