I'm horrified - not at the garbage of course, that's to be expected.... it's the sight of all those small cars and narrow streets :)

Why worry, this is just more cyber rabble.

I appreciate that people may want to defend some quaint notion of royalty, a convenient easy-to-crayon flag, some old buildings and quaint lil village fates...it's just stuff and background noise amid a small island-race of slowly deteriorating whooping and hollering knuckle-dragging isolationist nationalists, most who worship dumb billionaire soccer players and junkie pop stars, while others pretend to be progressive/inclusives, conveniently reaching out to Europe for better cuisine and a cool way of smoking cigarettes and better ways of wearing expensive clothes.

But easy to crayon flag?? Me, I always seem to get it round the wrong way... the Union Jack that is, not the England flag....even I can't screw that one up LOL...

This is the dark side of the British character, especially:

isolationist nationalists, most who worship dumb billionaire soccer players and junkie pop stars.

I liked that;) But the UK has its really good sides as well. It's dynamic, re-inventes itself, great place to do business, multicultural, very pretty, excellent number of museums, national parks etc.

What I don't appreciate much, in addition to what was written above:

- ugly cities and suburbs
- often dirty
- xeroxed housing
- bad spelling and grammar
- questionable quality of schools
- ridiculous attachment to the idea of a planned health service
- populist anti-immigration, anti-royal sentiment
- negative - worst country in the world sentiment

Volia.

I agree with most of what you have listed except on immigration, are you really surprised about the sentiment on this as the "Open dooor policy has beeen (sorrty about the spelling, I've had nearly a bottle of nice red spanish wine) such a policy for years unlike Canada, USA, Australia who all have a points system to accept who they want, when they want ! Cheers

To be honest ... our big concern is that we'll like it better than Canada!!

Anyone care to comment??

omg 5 yrs, how can you have survived without the brits sense of humour for 5 whole years, i'd be in a mental home by now that's for sure ;)

england is home for me and i go back about every other month and yep it has it's down times just like everywhere. however combining the uk's fine historic architecture and it's brill location to europe it wins big time over north america for me :)

hope you have a great time!

OK, Canadians are not nationalistic: will give in to anyone who pushes (*cough* lumber *cough*).

I had fun just t'other day. As the septics say, "oh that's so Canadian". I guess meaning lame or poor or apathetic or bland or whatever they think a lack of invasive exuberant ignorant rabble rousing God-bothering behaviour is in their worldview.

I had an encounter with a passive-aggressive who was on the aggresive yet path again. I just said "oh that's such an American workplace attitude" and voila.... it fixed the issue.

Right on.

Rich.
