Just got done for speeding and....

lost my license. I was overtaking a car on a 90kph road which switched over to a 70kph and that's when they clocked me.

Coppers took my license on site. Gave me a hefty fine and a permit to drive for a further 48 hours. Then I'm shafted.

I will more than likely get it back in 3-6 months.

I still have my international driving license (hence my trip in the car today) and yesterday the authorities should have issued a proof of driving experience.

Anyway - on my way to lawyers to try to contest the revoked license. Now I'm worried about getting an ontario license.

This is precisely what I didn't need at this moment.

<insert long ramble of expletives>

Very sorry to hear that..... it sounds like the police out there are as bad as over here!!! I currently have more points on my licence than i care for, mostly from sneaky speed traps, so you have my condolences and I hope your lawyer can sort it out quickly !

Are you in Australia...My parents were there in 2005 and my father got a ticket for going something like 98 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. It was via speed camera and there were in a camper van that they hired. The fine went to the rental agency and since it was a commercial vehicle the fine was something like $600. They then had to hire a notary public to certify that it was not being used for commercial uses and then the fine was knocked down to something like $60...all in all a bad experience. I think it was in Queensland or NSW.

I think he's in Sweden?

That's pretty harsh!

People complain about penalties for speeding here, but in reality, it's more lenient here than in most countries. When was the last time you heard of anyone getting nicked on a motorway for doing 90mph? There's very few motorway patrols these days, so people can do pretty much what they like....

I like Swedish police, the blonde girl in Stockholm who frisked me was really nice! (or I think she was a policewoman anyway )

Plainly the driving standards have declined; you've brought a nasty habit with you.

Law hasn't changed, but this seems to be common these days - see my point about lack of police patrols to do anything about it. The police have been replaced with "Traffic Officers" and "Incident Support" who only have powers to clean up accidents, they can't stop anyone for motoring offences....

how can you have been if they were passing you in lane 1? If there was room for another car to pass you on your left, there was certainly room for you to move out of lane 2.

Well, been to see lawyer. He is going away but his clerk has everything. They also have power of attorney to act on my behalf. Family will take the paperwork to them and he will see if he can knock it down to 1 month claiming I have business, need transportation, drive for 6000+ km per year and so on.

He also said nothing prevents me from actually going for a license in Canada and do the whole driving and theory test and wait until license is returned to me and then upgrade for a full G. Sweden has no authority on Canada. The only thing I can't do is switch at this time as I physically do not have the license on me for the time being.

Friend says that because I have HGV class 1 I am classed as a professional driver. Therefore I should know not to do such a thing and in theory authority will be more stringent.

Thing is - I agree. I fecked up at a very inconvenient time.

I do have a friend who is a copper and used to be a traffic cop, he got done same as me some years ago and lost his for a while. They still didn't take him out of active duty and he was still out there nicking other offenders while not being allowed to drive the squad car.

And yeah - YYZlover is a she.

The Police call drivers who drive in the middle lane "Clockers"....

Centre Lane Owners Club....

YYZlover

Sorry to hear about your ban but..........
If You've done the crime you gotta do the time (minus what ever your lawyer can mitigate), speed limits are there for a reason. Either buy a radar detector or slow down.

BTW, I posted last month after a near miss with a radar trap, luckily I didn't get pulled:D.
