Just contemplating...

Hi.

I have been thinking more and more over the past year about emigrating to Canada (more specifically Vancouver). I am a final year medical student and I spent a lot of my last summer there (including my elective) and felt it suited me quite well in terms of lifestyle.

I know that if I want to work in Canada as a doctor I have to sit entrance exams, pass medicals, fill out lots of forms, etc. What I wanted to know was if there are any other doctor's on this and how they found the change in healthcare systems or if there are any useful reference points, as well as general views on vancouver itself.

I intend to work in the UK at least for the first 2 years after I graduate. So, I know I'm jumping the gun a bit or maybe not as these things do take time to plan.

Regards
Kevin:)

Actually we don't seem to get many doctors on this site... here's a rather old thread that may still be of use ... a few links etc: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...octor+emigrate

I think most lose the will to live when they work out what they have to do to be recognised !

However, a friend of mine is a GP here, had to do a couple of extra qualifications and she is reasonably happy in a practise here in Calgary, but has struggled to marry up the idea of healthcare being a 'business'.
