Hi All

I am looking for a job in Canada for PNP or work permit application.

I have a degree in computing +2 years working experience.

Can anyone help?

Hmmm - I'm not sure what your chances are. I expect you're up against tough competition and you need to focus on what you're a specialist at. Computing is not an area that there's a shortage of workers. Also if you have only 2 years experience, it might be a waste of effort.

Speaking about British Columbia specifically, here are the facts:

1. Work permit takes 12+ weeks to issue
2. WP only gets issued once you've been offered the job, so employer has to endure this delay AFTER the lengthy recruitment and elimination process. This could make it more like 24 weeks in reality!
3. An employer cannot take on a person if there's other people who could possibly do the job. This means that you must be not only the best, but also the only. See my frustration in another thread about going through a lengthy process to be offered the position and then for the offer to be retracted because of this stupid delay.

I'm not sure about the PNP but it's not going to be easier than a WP.

I would strongly recommend against the Work Permit route. An employer might pay for you to move out to Canada, but then will only give you typically 2 weeks notice if they change their mind or you don't now suit their plans. The expense of getting home will be yours, and your WP won't entitle you to do another job. I expect most people who come out on a WP cannot afford to sit on their backsides for 6 months whilst going through the futile effort in securing new employment, only to then have the expense of moving back to Britain or wherever. This seems to be a very real prospect, so I would strongly recommend against this.

If you can get in as a skilled worker then sit it out and at least come here with a PR in hand. I doubt your experience level would allow you to get enough points for this. Best thing is to speak to an emigration lawyer, but you should check out your own chances as I'm sure some will be enthusiastic enough to win your business but give you the bad news when you've already parted with your hard earned cash.

Good luck eitherway, and regrets that I cannot be more positive.

Cheers

Paul
