Job offer Withdrawn
Hi All,
I have been offered job by a big MNC company from Vancouver Canada. I have got LMO and TWP last month. I was supposed to fly to vancouver on 30/11/2008 and to join then on 01/12/2008. Unfortunately I have got call last night from my HR that the company has lost few big projects and they are downsizing. In process of downsizing, the TWP holders will fist to go. I am working in UK at present, but I have already resigned from mu UK job. My last date with UK company on 28/11/2008. My Vancouver company HR says that I should not come to canada as it may be my job lasting for a week or may be a month. They want to withdraw the job offer. I have now no job in UK. I would like to know from All the Senior members, including Judy, what should I do? Do I come to canada and laid off in one month or stay back in UK with no job? I am really looking for your quick response please. Cheers:( |

Re: Job offer Withdrawn
Difficult, if you come across and get laid off within a month, then your TWP will be useless.
Any new job offer will again be dependent on a new TWP from a new company and that's if your extremely lucky to get a job offer straight away. I suppose in the end it depends on how much money you have to pay your way whilst looking for work and then waiting for the TWP. I believe, someone else may correct this, if you stop working for the company on the TWP, you are allowed to stay until the end date as a visitor. If you leave during that time you would probably not be allowed back in on it. I also believe you would not legally be allowed to look for work, I don't think that stops people looking though. |

Bugger. Is there any chance you can explain what's happened and ask to withdraw your resignation?

Re: Job offer Withdrawn
Bad luck, that sucks.
Is it possible your current employer would still keep you if you talk to them , or are those bridges burned? That would be the best case under the circumstances I guess. I would resist coming after they said not to, as things stand you are well placed when their business picks up again. If you came and were laid off the WP would allow you to stay to its original expiration date, so much would depend on your luck finding another job / TWP, and your wifes ability to earn in that time. Also depends on your job prospects in the UK. |

Re: Job offer Withdrawn
i don't know if this helps but NS is seemingly short on engineers but I am not sure what disciplines of engineering are lacking...worth investigating as NS has a big drive on for immigration.
Sorry for your misfortune |

Hi Folks,
Looking for some fruitful response please. I am in big trouble now. PleaseShare your views. http://www.expo-canada.com/jobs_at_expo.aspx I always felt very insecure being on a work permit (in fact I couldn't even let myself buy any house plants) until I had PR. With the economic climate looking a bit bleak you won't be the only one in this situation. If you had already arrived it would be worse. Vancouver construction industry may be less robust than it has been recently but if your heart is set on it, this website has contacts & jobs http://www.vrca.bc.ca/ I wish you luck Helen |
