Job market - Ontario
 

Hi Everyone

I've done a search on previous threads but couldn't find anything quite along these lines.

Just wondering for those of you currently out in Ontario what the current job market is like across all types of jobs?

Are you finding it easy to move/change/find jobs at the moment? If not, is this difficultly more for professional/technical roles or even for jobs in the hospitality and leisure industries? e.g. MaccyD's and Timmies?

What is the public sector job market like at the moment? Are there many cut backs or talks of cut backs?

It is still pretty tough at the moment, across all sectors, although there do seem to be more jobs advertised lately.

I've just got a job (media) after six months of very intensive applying/networking/hoping, but my other half is still looking for something in admin or education.

It's probably the same as Britain, really, but of course it depends on what sector you're in - there will almost certainly always be demand for experts in medicine and hi-tech, for instance. A friend specialises in caring for children with cancer - he emigrated from the UK to New Zealand, was headhunted for a job in Australia and is now planning a move to the Middle East before going to a hospital job in the US. It's been made pretty clear to him that he could walk into a job in practically any country.

Here in the National Capital Region, public sector jobs are EXTREMELY hard to come by in with vast numbers applying for every vacancy. That said, there's a lot of positive noises from the government. I hope things work out for you.
