Hi there everyone!

I'm looking to get a rounded view on this, so all comments greatly appreciated.

We are moving to Canada, but are hesitating because I have been applying and was hoping to have a job secured before we go. Reason being is that we won't be going over with a great sum of money saved and its such a big country we have no idea where to move to!

Are we going about this the wrong way? Should we just take the plunge and try and find a role when out there? I have applied to numerous roles but have heard nothing as of yet...starting to think that you're not even considered until you have the Canadian address...has anyone succeeded in securing a role before they moved? Don't want to keep putting the move off if a job role isn't going to happen while we are still abroad.

Just out of interest, without a job and if you go to Canada, what will your status be?

i.e. Do you already have residency or a work permit?

Many on the forum have secured work before moving (indeed for most, a job offer is essential for a visa, so it's the only way they can move!), so it's definitely doable. But it will also depend on what you do and how you're going about job hunting, have you done it in person whilst over there?

How about what kind of work are you looking for? Nuclear physicist type or cashier? Surely skilled employment would be easier to secure from overseas than unskilled.

Well that is already a step ahead of many so good for you.

Maybe try - depending on your field - calling some agencies and asking them their thoughts also. I think it is helpful to get on the ground, but it is also a reality that financial resources will start draining at the same time.
