I've only been here for 40 years.
Hello there. A very interesting site. I live in Nova Scotia, retiring here after 30+ years in Ontario. This is the OH's home turf. It's amazing what you can learn from the various discussions. TTFN

Welcome to BE. No need for anyone to point you to the WIKI or give suggestions on how best to get in Canada as you've been here longer than most of us! NS seems to be a very popular destination among those heading out from the UK. We haven't been there yet (we've settled in Alberta) but will definitely visit at some point. Hope you're settling nicely into your retirement. Eamonn & Janet. |

Re: I've only been here for 40 years.
can I just ask this one question to see if my memory serves me rightly .........
isn't Simon Legree the name of the plantation owner in Uncle Tom's Cabin ? I don't have a copy of the book here to look it up. |

Thanks. Even though it's been a lifetime I am still amazed at the speed of the passage of time. Is it just me or does it seem that time goes by more and more quickly. I actually landed in Halifax and it has changed and grown so much over the years. I was young and single when I arrived and things were, it seems, much easier then. I started things rolling in November and was here the following March. My prospective employer took care of everything. Sounds like it's much more difficult nowadays. Even getting my citizenship in 1973 was just a question of going to the citizenship office in Brampton, paying whatever the fee was then, swearing allegiance on the good book and that was it. How things have changed.
You should write your story up as an article for the BE home page...it'd be a fascinating read in terms of contrast with today's processes and how different you find Canada today, versus when you arrived. Eamonn |
