I've hit the moving-to-Canada wall.
 

(Can I just have a little rant, please?)

Okay, today I'm not excited. Today I'm peed off that my house is on the market and I have to keep it clean with four children who make no effort to help (surprise!) and every morning I run about like a maniac hoping we might get a call for a viewing and not a sausage. Not helped by the fact that the estate agent put it in the paper last week with the wrong town as the title, meaning that nobody looking for houses in our village would even see it, and anyone who called about it would be put off when they discovered it was in a village, not town.

And I'm peed off that the Canadian arm of my husband's company seem to work slower than the slowest things ever, meaning we've been waiting weeks and weeks for an alteration to the wording of the contract, meaning our move still isn't 100% certain, meaning my 11 year old is driving me mad asking what's happening and our 3 boys (9, 7 and 4) are picking up on my stress and behaving like monsters.

Skara, you call that a rant? I have been in a strop with the world for the last two weeks for exactly the same reason. I beat myself up mentally on a daily basis, and it isn't doing me a bit of good! I AM scared of moving to Canada, because I'm scared that I won't like living there. I'm scared that no matter how many times I give myself helpful mental talks, the reality might be less than I NEED it to be. I'm trying to tell my son (because I TRULY believe it) that our future will be better in Canada, whilst smothering hidden fears that I won't like living there, and then what? My heart tells me one thing, and my brain tells me another, and I'm just TRYING to do the best. Change is scary. The future is scary. Thank you SO much for your post, because you made me feel more normal, and I haven't been feeling so great about this for a while now.

That's alright it seems like you gve it a good shot just sometimes things are just not meant to be. Some people just fail. Just don't take it personally.

The original poster. It seems that given what I read she'll probably won't make it and that's okay. As I said, a lot people start the process of emigrating and for a myriad of reasons don't make it. I'm just trying to help people realize that when they fail like that not to internalize the failure and feel bad about it.

Plus as you rightly pointed out. Some people get over here and realize it's not for them and they don't fit in and they're financially much worse off and then have to go back to the UK. No matter what happens its all okay.

they all do things slowly in Canada, they cant help it. We have been here two months and we are trying to chill out and not be frustrated but it does happen, frustration kicks in.

Keep positive and don't take any notice of people on here trying to bring you down, they have nothing better to do!

We've been here almost 5 months and at times it still seems surreal. It's taken us over 4 years to get here. We had so many set backs we thought our dream would never happen. A year ago I would never have believed we would be here and living our dream. Hard work and lots of luck have paid off. It will happen you just have to keep positive and go for it.

The OP is in Buckinghamshire. I don't mind Canada, but if I had the choice of being here tonight or having a nice paddle on the Thames and finishing up with a few beers in a pub in Marlow I know which I would choose.

I actually can't think why anyone would prefer Canada to Bucks or Oxon.

Actually I really miss lunches in pub gardens hugely, but actually thats about all I miss, that and school uniform, oh and oak trees.

You rant away hon, its a very stressful process!
I remember what we went through when we emigrated!
And trying to sell our old place here, before moving into our current home (which we are NEVER moving from!LOL)
We had our old house on the market for 8 long months, I was pregnant for 4 of those months and 4 I had a newborn baby for, and it was so so hard, and stressful, getting the call for a viewing and then cleaning and tidying to no avail!
It WILL happen, you must keep positive! As others have said, ignore the negative posters on here, you want to move to Canada for your own dream and your own reasons, and life is definately what you make of it!

Sometimes you just need to get things off your chest to people who get it - it's a bit like being pregnant - when you are, it's all you can think of, but even your closest friends and family start to glaze over when you start obsessing over it for the millionth time that week.

And Oink, I ran a marathon last year - bloody glad you weren't in my support crew, because if you had been I'd have given up and gone to the pub when I hit the wall. :rofl:
