Irish apprentice electrician needs advice regardin electricial work in canada?

Default Irish apprentice electrician needs advice regardin electricial work in canada?

Hey guys a redudant irish apprentice here in ireland.to do an apprentice ship in ireland it consists of 7 standard phases and 208 weks but the thing is i have the 7 phases done but only 3 years and 6 months done of an apprenticeship done short 6 months ..but i before i got registered as an apprentice i worked for a year an 1 month in the electricial game so my question is would i be able to count thr 3 years and 6 months which works ou as 7000 hours and the 13months i worked before i started my apprenticeship works out at 2000 hours.so would i be able to apply for the red seal Iam planing to go to alberta probaly calgary in feb 2013 on a 2year iec whv :-)..and if i cant count my experance would i be able to get work as a labour for an electrician..iam traveling solo and am 23 so any info be brilliant thanks in advance ross :-)

I don't know much Ross, but I'll tell you that I saw an electrician apprentice job online the other day with BC Hydro (the only electricity company in BC - why they call it Hydro I have no idea) and the period of training was 48 months (4 years)!
Try contacting them direct and see what they say.

why would Hydro give a job to a foreign apprentice over a Canadian citizen/pr?

You have to have PR or be Canadian to do an apprenticeship in Canada, so that would be a non starter. To challenge the provincial exam you would need to be able to prove 9000 hours experience. It is not your best estimate, you would need employers to sign off on it to confirm what you say is correct.
