Hi, We are using McGimpseys also. Moving from Wicklow/Wexford to area to Alberta in July,.

Also got a good quote from Removal Group.com. Only thing is you have to pack everything yourself with these guys.

Best wishes.

Linda.

We are also only shipping clothes, nick nacks, books, kids toys, that sorta thing. If I thought air freight was cheaper Id love to know a few good names cos I have literally got quotes from so many people so far that Im gone stupid. we were quoted 1,650 euros just this morning to ship 20 boxes, OH's tool chest, 3 x bikes and 1 double bed. The quote from McGimpseys comes in at the same price by the time I transfer the sterling into euros, (but that quote was without the double bed), be interested to see what quotes you get- keep us posted. Best wishes. Toronto is a great spot by all accounts. Certainly beats Ireland right now. Linda.

We just moved to Calgary two weeks ago from Northern Ireland. Found our bearings quite well but not much sign of an Irish community yet. One thing is the driving license in Alberta. We discovered they wont swap a Northern Irish license for an Albertan one so now we have to try and get a British one in exchange and then swap that over. Ridiculous... they accept Scotland Wales and GB ... why not NI when we are allowed to swap they are interchangeable back home

I have to do the written and the driving test when we arrive, which is a pain but no agreement between ROI and Canada I'm afraid!

We got 3 or 4 quotes and found Careline the best value, moving from Dublin to Toronto in Feb.

Insurance is expensive though.

Please feel free to get in touch by PM if you would like any more info.

regards

H

Have you actually packed up yet.? The thing we found was that, once you boxed everything up, there is actually a lot more than you realise.

We also decided not to bring furniture, mirrors and pictures yes, but no beds or sofas or tables and chairs etc.

However, between clothes, toys, games, a few TV sets and DVD players, and all the kitchen stuff we wanted to keep, tools, bikes, fishing rods, keepsakes, DVDs, board games, etc etc it came to over 100 boxes for shipping.

btw, consider packing at least 1 Irish TV and a DVD player. When you get here you will want to make sure your Play station, Wii or Xbox will work with your Tv. We brought over a few region unblocked DVD players also so that we could watch all our existing DVDs and any new region 1 dvds.

You will need to buy a power converter that boosts the voltage from 110 to 220 for the larger electrical items but they work perfectly then. You probably cant watch TV on you Irish TV sets as they are different, Pal vs NTSC, However they will work with your playstation etc and that may be useful for a games room etc.

Also you will need a lot more plug adapters than you think, for laptops, cell phones etc etc. We had anout 6 but needed about 20.

When is your big move?

H

No prob, you can buy a pack of 3 adapters in Argos or somewhere like that for about €10.

The other voltage converter is more expensive. I spent about US$120 on 2 of them online. But they work with my kids elec keyboared, our stereo from Ireland, our irish 42" LCD TV for the kids games. Wii doesn't need one PS2 does etc. It all depends on the power consumption of each item and if it has moving parts etc.

A printer will probably need a voltage converter. They are called Step up and/or step down voltage converters. Get one that converts 110v to 220v.

Aso, bring 3 or 4 Irish surge protectors. You may want to plug in a DVD and TV into one voltage adapter etc.

Better to have it and not need it, eh!

Thanks a mill for that info. so good to know that we may not now need to sell the wii, Xbox, PS3, PC, printer, etc. We had thought we were going to have to buy them all new over in Canada. I will check out all those items you have mentioned and get them now. Thanks so much. Glad to have seen your post. That's why these forums are excellent. Best wishes. Thx again!

hi,
One last question.....(if you don't mind). Will the Canadian games work in the Irish consoles? Somewhere i thought I read that they wouldn't. Thx in advance.
