Internet Providers
Hi my contract is almost up with Telus. I don't particularly want to get locked in to another expensive deal with e.g. Shaw. I'm wondering if people in BC can recommend any of the other companies which I see advertised who all seem to rely on Shaw for tech support. I need internet and phone although it could be an internet based phone. I just need to keep the land line number. TV I'm not fussed. We pay for cable TV right now and I can't remember the last time I turned the TV on. I'm in North Vancouver. Thanks in advance!

Re: Internet Providers
My contract long expired with Telus, we just pay month to month now. They have been fine with us, we tried others years ago, they were horrible. We have Telus for landline and Internet. Long ditched cable or satellite TV and stream only now.

Re: Internet Providers
You could see if TekSavvy (https://www.teksavvy.com/en/residential/internet/dsl) will provide coverage where you are. I've used them in the past and they were great

Re: Internet Providers

My sister uses TekSavvy in Ontario and has never had any complaints. |
Re: Internet Providers
We have Telus for landline and cell phone, and Shaw for cable TV and internet
Happy with both ............ we just pay monthly! |
Re: Internet Providers
I have Telus fibre internet, 300 download / 300 upload, capped at 1TB per month for data usage. I pay $100 per month and could not be happier.
I moved away from Shaw as I have several wireless cameras that upload to cloud storage and I need a really fast upload speed (Shaw was only 15mbps). |

I would recommend them though especially if you're any kind of serious internet user. |
Re: Internet Providers
It's a bit like changing banks I think. It almost seems like too much hassle so you end up putting it off!!
But I'm going to find something better. |

Re: Internet Providers
Good tip. I called initially but the wait time was 1 hour which is why I decided to email but I'll try calling again. Thanks.

Re: Internet Providers
We use Teksavvy as well. Ours is DSL, so Bell came and installed it. We wanted cable internet, but Rogers claimed their was no cable running to our house despite the fact there are television cables visibly running into the house. We have used Teksavvy for 4 years and have had no issues at all. My husband works from home and needs reliable internet, and lots of it, and there has never been a problem with speed or outages. I would recommend them.

Teksavvy are great except if there's a serious problem such as an outage then they just tend to pass the blame over to Rogers (they resell Rogers cable in bulk in Ontario). You also need to source your own modem and router or buy one from them.
I would recommend them though especially if you're any kind of serious internet user. We thought about switching but the having to buy a modem and the fees they want to install and such, eh too many upfront fees. We currently use Shaw, 150gb limit, its bundled with cable TV and a phone for a little over $100/month for all 3. Never any major issues with Shaw, a couple minor ones over the years but they always resolved it quickly, no complaints about the service itself, just the cost. Shaw would in the past if you called to cancel work out a deal with 6 months promo pricing, but they seemed to have stopped that, last time we tried, they were more than happy to cancel the service.... |

Same in Vancouver except instead of Rogers they resell it's Shaw for cable internet and from what I could find out its all and good until something goes wrong and then its a blame game with little support.

I can easily use that amount of data in a week much of the time. I think heavy users are Teksavvy's core audience tbh. |

Unless you need a new cable line plumbed into your house/apartment then Teksavvy don't install anything I think. In my case back when I used them, I bought a modem from a guy on Craigslist and gave the MAC address from it to Teksavvy who paired it with my account. I then just connected everything up myself and that was that.
