ayone know the best airport for edmonton AB from vancouver BC? dh has a possible job interview but our recce is vancouver, dont fancy the 14hr drive so we are looking for him to fly there and back.

anyone got any ideas?

Edmonton has two airports. Or at least it did seventeen years ago when I managed to go to the wrong one.

Edmonton city airport has very limited service now from commercial airlines, no major commercial airlines service it.


As for the OP, you have the option of Edmonton International (actually not in Edmonton but south of the city) airport.

Don't really have much of a choice.

In BC Westjet also serves Abbotsford to Edmonton Airport which is just about an hour or so from Vancouver.

thanks guys i have seen some prices for this, its almost cheaper to fly back to the UK and fly to edmonton from here. so im gonna tell him to either talk the guy into meeting in Van or keep that company as a reserve if our van recce doesnt produce a job.

Every now and then there are seat sales, down as low as$69 each way plus taxes etc. That is as cheap as it gets and does not happen often anymore. Westjet just finished a 50% off sale, so another may not be coming anytime soon.

Domestic flights are way more expensive per mile than international.

I've just booked an Ottawa-Washington-Montreal-London-Ottawa trip. I didn't need, or want, to go via Montreal but it shaved about $1500 off the price. I have no idea why.

Canadian flights are exspensive, dont know how Canadians can afford to fly within their own country for vacation and the like, but domestically there just isn't any real competition on most routes, just 2 airlines, and thats not enough to have any real difference in fares.

But even when there is competition, I find the Canadian airlines charging more, so I never fly them cross border either.

My last trip cross border, Westjet was nearly double the price, but their service is so not worth the added cost.

The Edmonton to Vancouver drive is quite a nice dirve, I would build it into your trip if you can.

YOu dont have to fly from YVR - there are some smaller local ones - like Abbotsford . .Maple Ridge / Pitt meadows. .

The small GA airports, such as Pitt don't have flights to Edmonton. You would have to go from YVR or YXX (Abbotsford). The cost is not going to be any different, other than from YXX your only option is Westjet, out of YVR there is Air Canada/Tango and Westjet.
