But back in reality, two problems arise. One is that the houses near the lake in Oakville are stupidly, ridiculously, fabulously expensive (and it seems to be the rule that the more hideous the architecture the more expensive the house...). The other is that outside of the public parks, the lakeshore is privately owned, with no public right of way. Obviously, if one can afford a lakefront property that becomes everyone else's problem rather than one's own, but that's a fairly big "if" for us mere mortals! :( Come and visit in Isigny. |

Re: Input needed on GTA suburbs please
I got into an argument at a party with a suburbanite from Mississauga (originally from Winterpeg, says a lot moving from bland to blander) being that I now live in Toronto and misinformation was given. I had to interject... No dear Torontonians DO NOT shop at Square One - people from Mississauga do. There is a very big difference in the person that would move to Toronto proper and the person that would move to the GTA (gawd I hate that abbreviation). There is nothing of interest or appeal in Mississauga or any of the other identical cities - really, a city of over 700K population and it has a mall and not a lot else.
Personally I'd rather city hall use our tax dollars wisely and build a wall around Toronto and keep the GTA freeloaders out - or at least toll them to death, failing that asking them to be considerate towards Torontonians when the stampede to Union for the GO starts. I don't friggin care if you're going to be late for the 4:35 to Hamilton. |

Surely you're not being a snob about Toronto? It's better than the 'burbs but it's hardly London, NYC or Paris, it looks and feels like Pittsburgh. |

I had the same distaste towards people from the home counties commuting to London. If you're going to work in a city at least live in the damn thing.
We live in a lovely village, our daughter has 14 in her class at the little village school, and we have a nice house here. If we lived in London we'd probably only get a flat in a fairly grotty area, and our children would be in a much worse school. Plus I hate cities so why do I have to live in one when we can be there in half an hour on the train?!? |

Re: Input needed on GTA suburbs please
Vancouver is also an island "hon";) Its as much a city as Toronto is...Toronto as in "The greater toronto area" Bit pointless to allude to some little community on the west coast as no one would be any the wiser.
It would be interesting to see how long the city could support itself if all the commuters decided to work closer to home. Probably be about a month before businesses folded and services ground to a halt. Try not to be a patronising know it all and Im sure we will get on just fine.:sneaky: |
