Info on Lethbridge/Red Deer please
 

after looking into jobs i was basing my research on medicine hat or calgary now im looking in to either lethbridge or red deer and one any information on either of these two places would be greatly appreciated :)

They're both in Alberta, which is not Manitoba.

Red Deer is the town between Calgary & Edmonton whereas Lethbridge is about 2 hours south of Calgary.

People in Red Deer cant decide which NHL team to support but Lethbridge is definitely Flames territory.

What is it you want to know?

Lethbridge is Windy and warmer than the snowier Red Deer in winter. Red Deer is halfway between two major cities. Lethbridge is on the way to the middle of nowhere.

Lethbridge is a small city, around 2 hours drive south of Calgary. It is very warm in the summer and not too bad in winter. Very very windy also. I guess it depends what you are looking for and if you have kids or not. We lived in Lethbridge although moved to Calgary last November as we found that there is not an awful lot to do there, and definatly no good for shopping. I found it to be more of a place for retirement, hope this helps :)

Based on the info so far if the OP likes to hang out the washing as opposed to using a dryer then Lethbridge has an advantage over Red Deer.

I'd wager the majority of RedDeerians (yes that is what they are called) are Flames supporters - it's when you get slightly more North they become the Oiler fans. :thumbsup:

Personally I think Red Deer has the advantage of being a little more central to everything, however Lethbridge isn't too far from the US border for those shopping trips :thumbsup:

Would depend on what you are looking for in your move and if you like the quiet and good life or busy and city living ?
For us we live 10mins outside of lethbridge and love the area that we came to.
If i had to live in calgary/red deer i would turn round and head back to the uk, i would hate to have to live in those places.

Lethbridge is lovely with some great areas especially on the southside of the city and not as windy as some of the areas of the city.
Shopping is not really a problem as the border is very close for bargains, but i would not call it a retirement area.

We came with one child and another on the way, don't rule any area out but do look or advise what you need in your new area.

I have some issues with the last post.

Shopping - the nearest place across the border for 'shops' from Lethbridge is Great Falls which is a long long drive. I wonder is the poster has ever been to Red Deer or has just driven past?

I personally couldn't cope with the wind in the Lethbridge area but it was on our list of if the job is there that is where we would go to start off.

It is so easy to make generalisations.
Red Deer has ample shopping, leisure and work. It allows a choice of larger city shopping between Edmonton and Calgary without the hassle of living in these larger cities.

Not sure I could tell the difference between them to be honest. :confused:

I have visited Red Deer and Lethbridge and would describe them as pretty similar. Lethbridge is three hours from anywhere else, warmer, windier and offers most services you could require - some of the surrounding landscape is lovely and some is barren. Bit like all chunks of Alberta really.

Red Deer strikes me as more than a liveable city too - albeit a bit smaller.

You won't find much architectural inspiration in any of them - but facilities for doing "stuff" will be similar.

Choose the one where you can get a decent job. :thumbup:
