Both Canada and the UK should follow Hong Kong in how they are doing so well at the moment. Very little tax, no VAT. Great privatised era Vs the state. Good health and transport.

The UK high taxes is one reason I want to leave.

Not particularly. You'll be paying for healthcare - that isn't cheap.

What in being a 'Special Administrative Region' of a totalitarian regime of umpteen billion people? What an odd thought.

Taxation, by and large, is as high in Canada as it is in the UK. There are many reasons to want to move here. Low taxation is not one of them.

I didn't even mention that, I was talking about tax. What on earth has population got to do with low taxes

P.S I pay more tax and VAT in the UK than I will in Canada. I did my home work.

Quite a lot but I was more commenting on the relevance of comparing taxation regimes between UK, Canada and Hong Kong.

I'm pleased for you. Yet, from this thread at least, your grasp of the taxation system seems incomplete. I hope your homework is correct.

Worse. You don't have BUPA here. That's almost reason to stay in the UK.

ah, sorry. my mistake. I forgot that EI pays for your prescription drugs, trips to the dentist and it also insures your car. I should have remembered it did those things - what a mug I am paying extra.

employment insurance. Medical is paid provincially (i think it's 60 bucks a month in BC???). Big difference here is the benefits that you negotiate through your employer. For instance, i get my provincial contributions coverered, dental, extended medical, perscriptions..etc. I have not paid for dental, prescriptions etc for years. this also extends to family members.

i think those coming from the UK don't grasp this and don't appreciate it makes up your entire contribution package. It can easily add somewhere in the region of 5 - 10 k a year. Even places like Mcdonalds give their staff half decent plans

As for tax, it works out about the same, but RRSP's can significantly off-set total taxation.
