IMP resettlement package?

I know theres quite a few IMP people on this site, so I was just wondering how they spent there $11,000. I've had a package for a previouse job, and that could be used for your first couple of months rent, buying white good, etc. Can it be used for this type of thing, or is it just transporting your posetions over? Also is it worth transporting a car over, not sure I fancy a big automatic truck!

No. Unless it was originally sold in the US or Canada it's only importable after it's 15 years old.

You can only use it for shipping costs (possesions etc), up to a weeks interim accomodation, car rental for 2 weeks, flights. They won't give you anything if you try to claim for setting up a new apartment, furniture, t.v's, etc etc.

A week? That doesnt give you long to find somewhere permanent to live

The package states that you can use $500 towards accommodation costs. However if you speak to the HR dept and get it cleared it in advance you can negotiate on this. the package basically gets you into canada and running. You are paid weekly so the idea is you take up the rent/mortgage from you wages. I agree it is not much for accommodation, but many on this site came with no relocation so you are really looking a gift horse in the mouth.

As for cars they are cheap enough here and you can get a manual quite easily. you get a large car because of the snow not to damage the environment. A large car is better in a crash with all the rotten NS drivers as well:rofl:

I had the package pretty much spent before I came here, House shipping was the majority, the rest was taken up by flights, they dont account for the number of people in your family. Make sure whatever you do keep the receipts.

With the removals if you want you can get it invoiced to IMP, its not as if you get the cash up front anyway it all has to be claimed back.

At the end of the day for us as a family IMP saved us $11000 that would have come out of our savings, so it was all a bonus.

With regards somewhere to live we rented a house for 2 months whilst we looked for one to buy, but my advice is if you are looking to buy get a feal for the areas and get a short list of houses from MLS that you are interested in.

We landed on the friday, mortgage was aranged by the Saturday at 09:30 and by the end of the week we had seen about 30 houses and bought one. It all comes down to prior planning. If you want more info feel free to PM me. Oh and I forgot to mention we also bought 2 cars that first week as well. Unless you have money to burn wouldnt advise bringing a car across. They really are much cheaper here.
